I have a 98 chevy malibu and when i turn the heater on the blower works fine but the air goes from hot to cold hot to cold every couple minutes. what might be the cause of this

First thing to look at is coolant level. It sounds like the coolant pump will push coolant to the heater core and then stops pumping because it has air because to low. If coolant level is full, the vanes on the coolant pump might be spinning on the shaft, in which case you will have to replace the pump.

1999 chevy malibu ran hot and would not crank. changed egr valve and not cranks but runs very rough and not sure oil is getting to head.

you overheated it and then it would not turn over?i would check for anti freeze mixing with the oil and then do a compression test on all of the cylinders in case you blew a head gasket

I have a 98 malibu that has been sitting since Oct and there appears to be water in the oil. It has anti-freeze in it so it shouldn't have frozen up. What do you think would cause this?

Drain the oil and check to see if it's water or antifreeze. If antifreeze, it may be from an intake or cylinder head gasket Even when not being used those can continue to deteriorate. If it's plain water, it may just be condensation in which case, I'd simply change the oil with something inexpensive, run it for an hour or so (just to clean it out)then change it again using a good quality oil.

How to adjust valves on a 98 chevy malibu

the valves are hydralic and require no adjustment. if noisey then a bad lifter/rocker arm/cam shaft may be the problem. also low oil level,or foamy oil from to much oil or a leak in the oil pump pickup system could cause noise

HELLO I HAVE A 98 CHEVY MALIBU N IT HAS AROUND 200K ON IT. I KNOW THE CAR HAD ALOT OF MILES BUT IT HAS A BURNT SMELL COMMING OUT THE TAIL PIPE. IT DOESNT SMOKE AT ALL JUST CURIOUS AS TO WHAT IS CAUSING IT

this smell from tail pipe may be burning coolant, does it smell sweet, if so have head gasket checked. when a car has problems with something from tail pipe. it is usually the head gasket that is bad.

03 escape has an oil leak, knocking sound-sound changes depending on rpm, any ideas?

Did your vehicle run out of oil? There also may be a seal that is broken within the system. It should be looked at by a mechanic as soon as possible before the engine blows. I had a chevy malibu that ran out of oil and after that the engine was never the same. After taking it to the mechanic, they found a crack in the manifold which was a result of running it with no oil. Engines get very hot when they are running and they need the lubricant so the parts don't seize up. Good luck
