I have a 2007 Volvo s40 that makes a loud growling humming sound when driving just had new tires put on and it didn't change the noise.

You may have a faulty wheel bearing, if it's the front you may feel it in the steering wheel, turning side to side the noise may increase or decrease. If the noise is coming from the rear, you may feel it in your seat.

Hearing growling whine sound from passenger side front. Growling produces fast vibration (not shimmy). Sound increases on left hand turns. Sound more pronounced below 60 mph.

You need to replace your wheel bearing. Ford Escape bearings usually need changed around 80,000+ miles from my experience.
