This is a classic problem on the 900, and is 80% of the time (or more) an internal transmission problem. However, occasionally the shift linkage needs to be adjusted and this will solve it. Have your mechanic (or yourself) first adjust the throw on the shift linkage, and if that doesn't solve it then you know it is internal. You can repair this, in most cases, without removing the engine/transmission. Good luck!

1995 oldsmobile cutlass ciera won't go in reverse

Without putting a scanner on the vehicle, ANYONE is only guessing but here is my 2 cents worth...

There a many popping noises and it could be Engine but since you lost Reverse at the same time...

I would also say that you broke the SUN SHELL inside your 4T60E Transmission and you lost Reverse, Second and 4th gear...

I have 1996 vw jetta 2.0 and my reverse keep slipping out and will not stay in reverse..would I have to replace my whole transmission? by the way its stick shift

usually a sign that that gear set is starting to go out or has already, standard transmissions CAN be rebuilt, but it's usually easier to have a used working one put in place instead. good luck to you. does it pop out of gear?

I backed up a small hill in my 2002 Kia Rio and it popped out of reverse. Now when I back up it pops out. The other gears seem to be fine. Have I bent something? Thanks for any help/suggestions on...

This is usually indicative of a clutch problem but is more likely to be the clutch if you have an automatic. If you have a standard it isn't locking in reverse like it should. To go into reversein the standard you have to activate that secondary lockout, pull up on the lever or something like that in most cases, to get it all the way into gear. That lockout also drops back down once your into reverse and in a case where it doesn't drop back down you can pop out of gear. Another thing is in some cases you actually engage the Reverse gear before the selector is fully into the gear and it doesn't lock in. I don't own a Rio and haven't had to personally fix this problem in the past so I'm not sure which system you have if you have a manual transmission but most foreign cars built since 1999 have this incorporated in some way and I have seen this in other vehicles causing the exact problem you are describing. If you have an Automatic you need to take it to a shop and get it repaired. If you have a standard you need to get it repaired but could make due for a period if your careful and make sure you hold that shifter in the Reverse gear range.

MY 1997 NISSAN XE 2.4 LITER, 4 CYLINDER, 5-SPEED STANDARD 2WD TRUCK WILL NOT GO IN REVERSE WITH VEHICLE BEING STILL WITHOUT KNOCKING IT IN GREAR WITH YOUR FIST BUT IT WILL GO IN GEAR IF YOU ARE COASTING...

With the vehicle sitting still, ease the clutch out just a little bit while trying to engage reverse. If it pops in, even with a little grinding, it seems the bearings on the counter shaft may be a little stiff. Have you checked the level of the gear lube in the transmission?

My car will not go in reverse but will go forward

typical FWD GM transmission issue, the transmisson will have to be rebuilt. You could try a fluid flush and filter change but there are only 2 discs pack for reverse. Which makes them fail very easily
