VSA problem. On three occasions, weeks apart. First time ABS activated for no reason. They kicked in a few times in 10 minutes on flat straight road going 10 mph. Turned car off, back on - no problem for 2 weeks. Second time - heard a heavy metal clunk, car jerked a little, VSA light came on, stayed on until we turned off car. Then stayed off for a couple of weeks. Just did it again. Same as second time. Took off wheels, sensors seem fine, wheel is tight, brakes look good. 2004 MDX Betsy

VSA light comes on after a big thunk sound. I know ABS and VSA both use wheel speed sensor. If the ABS and VSA have both been affected - doesn't that point to the sensors? Is there a way to find intermittent failures of any of the above?

I don't think water is it. Each day was very dry, and overall the 6 weeks we have been in a severe drought. Thanks for the try though.

If the car has not been for a routine full check up on the clocked mileage , I think it is only a possible clean up of all the wheels, the sensors that can help to eliminate this problem.
The other probable suspect can be the ABS itself acting erractic at times when there is a false sensing.Make sure all the wire lines to the sensors are good and tight.
Since the fault is turning up only at times, replacement with a suspicion is not a good solution as you might unnecessarily waste money for replacing good working spares.
So attempt the check up once again as you had done and observe the next time the fault occurs. Jack up all the wheels and check the brakes/ bearings once again.

Is it wet in your part of the world right now? This does happen from time to time if water gets into the system. The fix is to go to the wheels and any sensor on or near the brakes, disconnect (if possible) and fill with "di-electric grease" which will keep the water out and the system working good.

Getting any kind of blockage (dirt, mud, trash on the highway) between the exciter ring and the sensor will kick this issue. And only momentarily. The thunk you may be hearing is from the traction control kicking in automatically to give you stability in what it believes to be a slippery situation.

This problem is hard to diagnose without seeing the vehicle. If you take the vehicle to the repair shop they will be able to put it on their scanner to see what the codes where when the light came on. This will give you a lot better idea of what the problem is.

Sounds like you have a faulty ABS module, only way to verify is to take it into your Honda/Acura dealership as they have very in-depth scan tools that you won't find anywhere else! Good luck!

2006 Honda crv, vsa, abs, and triangle light are permanently on

You are talking about the VSA activation indicator (triangle with exclamation point in the middle):
This indicator has three functions:

It comes on as a reminder that you have turned off the vehicle stability assist (VSA) system.

It flashes when VSA is active.

It comes on along with the VSA system indicator (the rectangle with VSA in it) if there is a problem with the VSA system.

This indicator normally comes on for a few seconds when you turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position, and when the ignition switch is turned to the START (III) position.

Hope this helps you understand the problem.
