I have a 2001 GTI VR6, and the air conditioner blows hot air. I dont hear the clutch engaging, So I checked low side pressure,it was between 55 and 60psi. It happened all in one day, on a long trip, and the ambient temp was about 100F. I stopped to get a drink at a store, and when I resumed my trip, it would not get cold. Any thoughts?

You would have to measure the pressure to determine if it's pressurized correctly. The compressor won't run if it's low.
What happens when you push the a/c button? Can you hear/feel the compressor kick in? It seems like in most cases it's the compressor itself or the compressor clutch that goes. It's way too common in vw's...

the amount of money and time it would require to turn your N/A (naturally aspirated) into a forced induction car(turbocharger, or supercharger), you would require the buttom end to be built, fueling, exahust, ecu(computer) forged rods/pistons/ then the turbo or super charger, also alot more, if you go to vwvortex.com and click on the forums and look around, you can see the different setups people are running on their VW's AUDI's
