How do you replace a serpentine belt for a 1986 Mustang? There are not adjustments to lossen up any of the parts. There are isnt a tension pully only a idler pully. It has a factory ac pump and the belt is to tright and thers is noway to get over the AC'S pully.

It probably isn't properly on the bottom pulley where it is difficult to see it.

How to replace a fan belt

Depending on Vechile, Most you can work over the fan and lossen the teneson pully and replace, You will need a 9/16 deap socket and a breakover bar to lossen the tension on the pully enough to slide over . Good luck.

Really don't need a diagram. Loosen the slide bolts on the power steering pump. loosen or tighten the pump by turning the jack screw (long transverse bolt) under the pump. Once the belt is tightened up, lock down the slide bolts and you are finished.

Below the altenator is a tensioning pully, insert a 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar in the square hole on the tensioner and release the tension on the surpentine belt and remove the belt. Route the new surpentine belt in place up to the altenator and take the tension off the tensioner and put the belt over the altenator pully. Double check to make sure the belt is riding correctly on all the pullies before starting. Crank the engine over several times before starting to seat the belt.

Serpentine belf is self adjusting the tensioner is spring loaded no adjustment, if weak replace it.If belt was replace make sure you have the right size belt, before replace tensioner.

How do I asjust the serpentine belt on a 2005 ford freestar?

It should not require any adjustment. the right tension is provided by the idler pully. If you want to release the tension for serpentine removal or examination release the tension on the idler pulley in the rear of the motor, spin the nut in the center like you were tightening, and the pressure will be released from the serpentine belt. Reversely, the appropriate tension will be given using the same way when the strap is reinstalled.

the 4.0 didn't come with a spring type tensioner if look under the p/s pump there is a jack bolt hooked to a idler pully loosen nut on front of pully and lossen up the jack bolt till you can get the belt off

How do I release the belt tension pully to replace serpentine belt

You can run down to your local auto parts store and buy a serp belt tool. Or you can take a 3/8 drive ratchet, locate the 3/8 square hole in your tensioner and put the ratchet in the hole. For more leverage I put a deep socket over the ratchet handle and put a long 3/8 extention in the deep socket. This will provide ample leverage and will save buying more tools you do not need. Simply move the tensioner to the direction that takes pressure off of the belt.

You mean the serpentine belt . Do you ? If thats what you mean, the tensioner is a component that has a bolt at the middle which when lossened with a wrench will lossen the tension on the serpentine belt it has a spring and can be moved . if it was a seperate belt it woud have a bolt and a brace with a U shaped hole in the middle. You would lossen the bolt and pull on the belt and it lossens up.

Its a 3.6 or a 3.8 Its not the 5.0. I dont need info on how the belt runs through the pullys. I need to know the trick of getting it on.. Thanks..
