When the engine stops, the power steering stops because the engine powers the power steering pump with the serpentine belt.
There could be many reasons the engine stopped and the fuel pump is just one of them. Check for DTCs and diagnose the vehicle electronically with a pro grade scan tool computer.
I guess I should start by saying the code did not say the sensor was bad. It probably said the sensor signal was out of range. If replacing the sensor fixed the code but the engine still runs rough and stalls, it could be a leaking injector or a problem with the throttle body. You would need to know which cylinder is causing the miss.
Check the engine compartment bulk head electrical connector on the firewall, the bot that holds the two halves of the large connector together may be loose or water may have intruded into it.
the catalytic converter might be disabled due to a problem with ignition coils. They most likely need to be replaced. Here is a site (click link) with people describing similar problems, including the hesitation/miss/skip followed by the engine running roughly and cat problems. Engine coils are the most likely culprit, common with your vehicle unfortunately
If the check engine or service engine soon light comes on when this happens then pull the codes and check to see what part may need to be replaced.
If the light does not come on it may be temperature related, meaning vapor lock when it is hot the fuel in the lines turns to vapor and stops fuel from flowing to the injectors, without a code it's difficult to diagnose over the net.
Or an intermittent problem with fuel flow, I know these vans HAD RECALLS due to the fuel filter, pump, go to your local dealer take your vin number with you and they will run a check on their computer for you which will show what recalls were or were not done on your van this may solve the issue.
its soaking air somewere around the manifold make sure you thigten the bolts on the wight pattern if yoou dont know the pattern start from te center to the outside or reset the computer just unhooked the negative cable from the batery for 5 minutes,
crank shaft sen. is easy enough to change.its mounted near timing chain cover, cam sen.is somewhat harder, its in the distributor,id doubt that both are defect
You have a cylinder misfire. That is the only thing that will flash the check engine light. With the van running spray the plug wires with water. Watch and listen for arcing. If there is, replace that or all the wires. It is possible for new wires to be bad. Next check the cap and rotor buy spraying them with water, than removing and looking inside for signs of burning or anything that will hinder the spark. Last check the spark plugs for carbon tracking (small black lines in the porcelin), caused buy hair line cracks. If you dont find any thing, check it again. With no other codes it is very unlikley that anything else is causing the misfire.
