Start the vehicle use a multimeter and connect the positive lead to the back of the alternator where the battery wire is hooked up, place the negative (black) lead to a good ground. Voltage should be around 14.00 Volts, if not you have a bad alternator. Good Luck.

2001 Lincoln Continental. What wires from the module carry the power to the fuel pump please?

Question edited for clarity and typos, 'modular' > 'module'.

Also check the relay. You can put a pair of wires from the battery to fuel pump to test.

Battery light stays on 2001 lincoln continental

battery light stay on because there is no output or below voltage out put from the alternator. Check that the battery terminals and posts are shiny clean and tight, if there is a charging circuit fuse (OK). Have the battery load tested . Remove the alternator and have it bench tested by an accredited auto electrician.

Shop is wanting to charge $1,000 to replace a fuel pump in a 2001 Lincoln Towncar. Does that seem high?

Yes, that is extremely high, the best thing to do is price the fuel pump yourself, I work at a shop and we (and most places) charge $50.00 and hour labor. It usually takes about 2 hours (depending on what type of vehicle it is) to replace it. Most places will let you supply your own part then just charge you for the labor, which is the best route to go.
