1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. While driving, I can feel hesitation in the gas peddle. Starving for fuel. I put on the brake at a stop light and the vehicle dies. Next either it will start immediately or have trouble starting it again. At least trying to restart 4 or 5 times. I have replaced the crank sensor above the transmission. Sometimes just while having the jeep idling it will just shut down.

SOURCE: 1997 jeep grand Cherokee laredo hesitation problem

You should add a rs4 performance chip or the fuel economy chip also made by rs4. there like 70 bucks. If the problem is electrical changing your chip could solve the problem. Even if is doesnt work the chip will make your truck idle more smoothly, have better throttle response, and you will add 3-7 mpg. I bought one for my 1997 jeep grand cherokee straight six, and it felt like i was driving a different truck . It mae that much of a difference...you cant loose!!!Like everyone says , it could be a vac leak or a clogged fuel filter , soetimes bad gas...your problem is a needle in haystack. Try the chip...I hope this helps

You didn't mention which engine you have but on an inline six, a failed fuel pressure regulator caused this symptom on ours.
It is at the front end of the fuel rail and cost ~$40 to procure.

I don't think a PCV valve would create the problems you just described. It could effect idle and re-start if it has failed to the point of being an open vaccume leak, but it would have no effect on limiting the higher speed operation.

Fuel filter can cause this by starving the engine of fuel, but it would not have as much of an effect at idle when fuel demand is very low.

A leaking vaccume hose would not effect high engine operation.

A partially plugged cat converter can cause all of the symtoms including lack of power.

Is there an engine light on? If so, this is where I would start looking for clues.

it sounds to me like you have inferior gas in the tank, or some water has gotten in your fuel. you may be able to add a little denatured alcohol to the gas and it may burn off the water. good luck

My 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is starting to have a ''slight'' hesitation after I shut it off and re-start it again. WHen I accelerate at first it hesitates a bit. I let off the gas for a few seconds...

A slight hesitation after engine shut off due to engine running rich meaning not meeting golden air:gas ratio of 14.6:1 so fuel residue in chamber continue to burn for the last moment. The same rich fuel problem that was why you had to let gas off during acceleration. Need to Check out the O2 sensor Check out MAP sensor Good luck
