My 2006 Volvo S40 does not have an oil leak but it is burning through all the engine oil in between oil changes. I get my oil changed about every 4,000 miles.

Have you tried to run finger around inside of tail pipe to see if its burning oil!! but do this when it is cold. you may also have bad oil rings on pistons. if it is burning oil it will smoke very little if any. because the convertor runs so hot it will burn up all the oil residue. so you may noy be able to see any smoke. have a good day!! check carefully all gaskets for oil leaks, and also make sure oil filter is hand tight, sometimes a loose oil filter will start leaking oil.

U have a scored engine cylinder wall or collapsed piston rings or a damaged piston, to pin down the problem further requires special testing.

Blue smoke is often the result of bad rings on the pistons. Engine rebuild time. It is possible that the turbo is leaking oil into your engine.

2006 volvo s40 50,000 mi. noticed a noise under hood that sounded like a belt slipping. sounded more like it was coming from the back of the motor. With the car running,I took the oil dip stick out and the...

The oil filter housing also houses the pcv system. What causes the noise is that there is a check valve in the pcv system that is supposed to regulate the pressure in the crankcase. The valve gets stuck and causes vacuum to build in the crankcase, which in turn sucks air wherever it can causing the noise, which is also why when you pull the dipstick it stops. This can also cause a check engine light with codes for fuel trim. The oil filter housing will need to be replaced. Good news is that Volvo extended the warranty on these to 100K miles so it should be free of charge at the dealer. One thing to watch for is oil leaks after the replacement from the camshaft seals. If air can get past a seal, usually oil can too. If the seals leak too long it can contaminate the timing belt and cause it to break, which causes a lot of damage.

Volvo 2006-i WAS driving it and for about week or two only for a second check oil light came on with really sharp turns and thats it. When i finally checked it the stick thing didnt register. Car is fine...

Yes, When you run an engine low on oil enough to cause the light to come on then damage is being done. It sounds like you caught it just in time. I would change the oil and filter for shure as soon as possible. Then I would Change them again In a week or two. Then you should be OK.

2003 Volvo S40 1.9T where is the thermostat located?

Its really easy... open the hood... looking back toward the car, its at the front of the engine, left hand side near the top... you'll see the hose coming out.. its held in with 2 large torx screws... make sure you change the rubber seal around the thermostat when you remove it.. also be aware some antifreeze will leak out.. so take proper precautions.. don't do it when the car's hot.. difficulty 1/10.. easier than an oil change.

2001 Volvo S40 1.9T - oil leaking into turbo

It's very common for the turbo return line seal to leak. That is what I would check first, when it leaks, it will spray oil all over the turbo lines and the rear of the engine.
