Double check the wiring to the ignition unit and make sure everything is still lined up correctly.

2001 Tahoe starts up and turns right off Security light flashes five times

The steering column holds the receiver for the key transponder. You need the unit from the old column. Make sure the connection is good. You may be able to get an auto-electrician with a high level scan tool to reprogram the mismatch.

1998 LXi. How do I repair damaged steering column?

Replace the entire steering column. Keep the ignition cylinder though if it's not destroyed, the anti theft system will read the key that goes with it along with the engine computer. They all have to talk to each other in order to start the vehicle. Otherwise you will need the computer to get reprogrammed to go with the new key etc probably through the expensive dealership.

1997 mustang anti theft system

If it is a different lock cylinder and key than the original, then you will need to use the original lock cylinder and keys. Or have the theft deterrent system reprogrammed to the existing keys that are in the steering column

Replaced steering coulmn now it will not start

The Passive Anti-Thft System (PATS) in your vehicle prevents the vehicle from being started with the wrong key. Even if the key is mechanically able to turn the ignition lock cylinder, the digital signal from the key must be programmed so the PATS will accept the signal from the new key.
You have a couple of choices. You can change the lock cylinder out with the lock cylinder from the original steering column so the original keys can be used. You can remove the lock cylinder from the new column and have a locksmith re-key the lock cylinder to accept the original keys, then reinstall it into the new steering column. Or you can take the entire vehicle to a professional auto service facility that has the computer equipment necessary to reprogram your computer to accept the new keys.

My car sometimes won't let go of my key when I shut it off. Dealer says it has to do with the theft deterrent module, but all the stuff I've read about it on the internet suggests that the theft...

This is probably the ignition lock cylinder worn out or getting old. The TDM is most likely not locking the key in, but new cars are pretty tied into themselves. For now, just try leaving the key in. Use another one for the doors. Some cars have a small hole under the steering wheel/column that you can stick a pen or something in to release your key. Maybe just be ready for something else breaks, then you'll know what is wrong.

I have a 1995 camaro. it will not start. i ran a jumper wire to the solenoid and turned the key on. it starts but will only run for about 5 seconds? it has a new ignition with security key

Did the dealer install the new ignition?. If so, then he would also have to replace the sensor that goes with it which is attached to the steering column, Then he would have to reprogram the on-board computer to accept the new security code. Just changing the ignition and key won;t work. Check out this website for more informaiton: http://newrockies.ca/vatsbypass.
