Guys! Are you readying your airbag system after messing around with your truck?
I've seen airbag lights come on for man reasons, faulty sensors, connections, replacing RADIOS! Removing seats!! All sorts of reasons. Personally I bought my QX56 with the airbag light blinking. Drove me crazy for 24 hours till I decided to reset it n see what happened. It takes two minutes to do. No tools.
1. Turn key from off to on. (on meaning all your dash lights are on but your not cranking the motor)
2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly.
3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)
4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.
5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.
6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.
When the airbag light (SRS) is on or blinks it means a fault has occurred in the system and the airbag diagnostic monitor has disabled the system, the most common problem that turns the light on is a break in the connection to the steering wheel mounted airbag, this is due to a rotating ribbon contact that breaks under the steering wheel that connects the airbag to the wiring harness and the diagnostic monitor, the part is called the clock spring contact, a coiled up ribbon electrical contact that turns with the steering wheel while maintaining a mechanical connection to the airgag mounted on the steering wheel, to replace this part you must disarm the airbag system and remove the steering wheel, this requires a special steering wheel puller tool and that you disarm the airbag system before you start the work, to do this disconnect the battery negative cable for 1/2 hour prior.
I would be very careful of this suggestion.not saying its not possible, but I would first have the "stealership" give you the code first..ie:B12 etc(as mine is) and verify first before you rip out the clock-spring (I have done it many times trying to diffuse my prob) Mine prob implies it has something to do with the belt buckle harness,I have 2 new ones...sooooo....where does one go from here???? Check harness's etc I guess as I haven't been able to find any other good advice.Cheers from Canada! email me with any [email protected]
So what happens if they replaced the harness, replaced the seatbelt sensor, replaced the sensor on the airbag and the light is still blinking??
I had the same problem so i took the positive of the battery and under the seat i found the cable sniped of the contacts and connected the cable with a joiner and it worked the connection under the seat can be faulty so all good this way you are not doing any harm, there is one under both seats., Anthony Lonican from Ireland
Never just splice any airbag wiring, solder a twisted wire joint and then shrink tube the joint, no crimp connectors should ever be used to repair wiring as critical as the SRS system. There is a reason why the connector in the SRS are gold plated. Never disconnect the (+) of the battery only the negative cable to service the vehicle.
SRS? "supplimental restraint system"
