My dash, exteior, interior, radio and some gauges are flickering on in off while im driving. This only happens when I deaccelerate. I realize that while im accelerating its cranking the altinator and thats keeping the car full powered. But once I left off the gas or hit the breaks all the electronics like lights and gauges kick off and on. What could this be, is the altinator or a bad ground wire or what? I dont want to go fixing everything i tcould be just to solve a simple problem.

I would check your fuse board for a loose fuse or wire to it from the battery as sometimes vibration loosens terminals eric

dose it rain when this happens/ you have a grounded wire somwhere in your wireing harness.it may even be the supply wire for your vanity lites on visurs

sound like you have a lose connection it could be the cables on to the dash or the socket it fits to. you would need to remove the dash and clean the connection and re fit it. if you push on the dash does it stop. ? just check this first as some times its just a tiny amount of play in the connections that's the problem .

Sounds like a wiring issue, it's actually hard to diagnose without being there, with that many things happening all at once I'd guess a possible problem with the underhood relay/fuse box. On older vans they sometimes short out inside.To be sure you might want to go to your dealer, for about an hours labour they should be able to diagnose it properly. They will only go as far as you tell them to.

For all those who have a situation where the interior courtesy lamps and radio don't work in a ford contour: After dozens of uncomfortable minutes checking fuses under the hood and under the dash I realized the problem wasn't the fuzes but instead it was the courtesy lamp relay in my 2000 ford contour. A $6 part from O' Reilly's (R6026 or V09174) and voila! Interior lights are on and I can finally get that Disturbed disk out of the CD player. It was real fun contorting my body into positions not intended for any human to access the fuse panel under the dash (just above where your left leg would be when driving). Best of luck to all. Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

we had the same problem there is a small line that connects itno the alternator, it kept jiggling loose. we found a way to tighten it and the problem went away
