I put my 2001 Jeep grand cherokee limited on a code reader and got the following first it said the #4 cylinder was firing random,it also said the #3 cylinder was misfiring and then finally gave a code P1281 engine is cold too long. What does all that mean?

Thank you Tim, I will try that and let you know how it turns out. I just bought this vehicle and so far I like it very much. It has over 180,000 miles on it but the engine seems to run very smoothreally the only problems I've been having have been with heat not blowing hot air and a sound coming from the rear end that lets me know that I will need to do a repair there in the near future. the heater core appears as though it's getting hot and the actuator on the pass side turns but no change in the temp of the air coming out. If you try to turn the door manually you hear it flip a little and fall back in place.I do'nt think that's a good thing.

I agree. Wires, plugs and COILS. Also check/replace the fuel injectors. I had a #2 misfire and open circuit. 8 plus and a coil later i replaced 4 fuel injectors only to find out instead of 2,4,6 and 8 being replaced the mechanic replaced 1,3,5 and 7. Between all that it blew the PCM. Not sure about the engine being cold too long.
Also sounds like a blend door/actuator is broken. That's the problem I'm having currently. And the rear sound... check/change the rear diff. Better than paying 2000 for a new one when it cooks. Good luck

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4+4, is missing, replaced spark plugs, coil packs, fuel pump.02 sensors, still missing.runs ruff in idle.smell gas when it starts,

Check for the computer codes. It can point to the cylinder that is miss firing. Could be a bad injector. Do a cylinder balance.

2001 grand Cherokee. Code P0300

po300 is a random misfire, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why. If it was a po302 this means its #2 cylinder thats misfiring,ETC, But po300 could be any one of the cylinders. check plugs, wires, fuel injectors, Etc. Good-Day!
