The car sometimes will not shift out of first gear when driving. If I shut the car off, then restart it then it will usually drive and shift. The car has 120000 miles, is it worth fixing. It is in decent shape.

But the codes you mention are not the same codes I was referring to.

  • Anonymous Oct 26, 2010

    Vetteman,
What is L.R. Stand for? Would this cause the trans to sometimes not shift out of first gear?

  • Anonymous Oct 26, 2010

The codes you mention are not the same as I mentioned though.

Hi Angelo, thanks for the response. Do you think this is expensive to fix? Approx? Car has 120,000 miles but decent shape otherwise....

The P0871 is the transmission temperature sensor.
The P1776 is the Solenoid Switch Valve Locked in L.R.
The P1776 is a very common problem with the Chrysler and Dodge. It costs anywhere from $600-$800 to replace the solenoid. Depending on the transmission shop.

If the car is in good shape, it is probably worth fixing. If you continue to drive the car without replacing the solenoid it will burn the transmission up. If this happens it will cost quite a bit more money to rebuild the transmission. So if you decide that the car is worth fixing, then I would try to get it in as soon as possible. Resetting the computer by turning the key off then back on will only damage the transmission clutches.

Don't bother with the Valve body and solenoid. My 2004 Concorde has the exact same problem and TWO different dealers diagnosed the Valve body and solenoid, and both replaced them, and both were wrong... Still have problem.

Now they want to replace my whole transmission?

P0871-OD PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT
When Monitored: Whenever the engine is running
Set Condition: The appropriate code is set if one of the pressure switches are open or closed at the wrong time in a given gear.
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
RELATED RELAY DTC'S PRESENT
INTERMITTENT WIRING & CONNECTORS
OD PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT OPEN
TRANSMISSION CONTROL RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN
OD PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
OD PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE
OD PRESSURE SWITCH
TCM - OD PRESSURE SWITCH

P1776 SOLENOID SWITCH VALVE (SSV) LATCHED IN LR (LOW REVERSE) POSITION.
P0841 LR PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT They are probably related. The only way to fix the P1776 is to replace the valve body. The SSV is in the valve body not the solenoid pack. But the good part is that with the valve body you get the solenoid pack. They are together in that transmission. There is no other way to fix that code. You can clear it and it will come back every time the TCM sees the SSV has gotten stuck either in LR or TCC positions.

I am not sure of the price. But i heard if you rebuild the valve body it would cost $1800. Again, i am not sure of this info.

Where is the speed sensor located on a 2002 Chrysler Concorde

Beware speed sensors seldom fail. Chrysler products transmission have a limp mode where they only shift to second gear when something goes wrong and many times when nothing is wrong. If the speedometer fails it goes to limp. If an OBD scan gives a transmission code sometimes clearing the code will end the problem. When driving if the transmission shifts one time as it should the sensor is working.

Solenoid

This is a transmission code. The culprit could be anything from a torqueicon1.png converter to and internal trans problem. The next thing you will have to do is run some tests with the factory scanner or a scanner capable of troubleshooting the transmission. The p1776 is for the solenoid switch stuck in low/reverse.This could be a number of different things you will need to troubleshoot with the scanner. If this was helpfull please leave me good feed back

What is P0871?

PO871: Trans Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch C Range/Performance.I bet this is an external sensor that can be replaced from the outside of the trans.(I didn't work on automatics at the dealer-we had 2 specialists that repaired automatic transmissions. You can see why I prefer 3 pedals under my dash!)

I have a 2004 Chrysler Concorde LXI 2.7 Eng. Got Check Engine light twice with PO344 code (Cam Shaft). Dealer could not find problem and reset computer twice. Now I am getting error codes PO700 and...

check flexplate,i had a vehicle w/ 2.7 that would throw similar codes(cyl miss code that would change to"cam counter" then weird tranny codes and back)changed cntroll box on trans, coils, cam sensor .ended up being a cracked flexplate that shifted enough it was screwing with crankshaft sensor.the sbec(brain box) was going nuts trying to figure out why cam/crank signals didnt jive so it was basically"guessing" why.its a mechanical failure causing good sensors to read bad,if the codes come back or throw diffrent ones after reset look at non computer causes, dealer should know better.

96 grand caravan that shifts hard and goes into limp home mode. I can shut the van off and turn back on and will go out of limp home mode but still shifts hard. Could it be the pcm, tcm,or soleinoid pack or...

This must be your lucky day, to get an answer back this quick. I am dannydoesita, and I just finished fixing the same problem in my 2002 Chrysler Concorde. The problems are the same for all 42Le a606 transmissions. I will take you trough this repair step by step, but I don't know your capabilities or your desire in tackling this project.
1- Turn ignition on off on off on
2- Codes will come up on your odometer, you can also use a scanner tool if you have one
3- You may have a number of different codes, I had p0700, p0731, p0841,p1776.
4- If you have p1776, then the problem is with your solenoid pack
5- If you wish to go farther I will be able to help you mechanically as well as financially.
6- I will guide you step by step through the take apart process and reassembly
Check everything to this point and get back to me. GOOD LUCK.
