1998 sable my sable keeps overheating. we changed the thermostat and a few hoses on it already adn it still overheats

fan clutch is out. turn it off and grab fan with tip of fingers ans spin it. if it dont stop rite away its time to change it

Are you talking about the overflow hose for the recovery tank ?
When does it overheat ?
Have you replaced the thermostat yet ?

There may be an obstruction in one of the hoses, there may be an air pocket in the system somewhere.
Are you sure there is actually an overheating going on? Maybe it's a bad temperature sensor or temperature gauge stepper motor.

That's about the right amount of time for a thermostat to start opening. If the rad is cold and the engine is overheating then get the thermostat changed. It's likely sticking closed. This situation would also cause your coolant to boil in the head and evaporate the water out of the mixture. That's why you need to keep topping up. Hope this helps.

What are you going by to say it's overheating , temp gauge ? Have you test to see what the actual temp. is > Hook - up a scan tool ,what's the PCM - engine computer seeing for engine temp. ? 223 degress the PCM should turn on the cooling fan . Could be a bad temp gauge . Is the coolant surging inside the cooling system ? Does it have a radiator cap ? Have you replaced it ?

Does it heat up and overheat very quickly after you start driving , if so , probably thermostat.
If you are driving down the road and the temp is good , then you stop in traffic and car heats up , then probably cooling fan not working.
If it heats up slowly , then just keeps getting hotter till it overheats , then radiator problem.
Is is realy overheating , or is the guage just giving a false reading ?

Overheating can be numerous things: Fans not working, water pump, thermostat, overflow cap, and the list keeps going. When the engine is running and heats ups, feel the heat of the top hose, if the hose isn't hot, the thermostat is most likely stuck open and needs replaced. If it is hot we know you have circulation. The cap on the expansion tank may be defective, if it can't hold the pressure of the water, it will release at the overflow cap if the cap is bad. Also check the coolant level.

Thermostat is faulty.
It can be found by grabbing the top radiator hose and following back to the engine. The housing this hose is clamped to is the thermostat housing. Remove the 2 bolts, and the cover o reveal the thermostat.
It should cost less than $20 for a thermostat and gasket.
Replace it and your overheating isues will go away.
