If it doesn't have a dipstick there should be a plug located on the tranny that you can take out if the fluid flows out of it then it should be full.

SOURCE: landcruiser auto transmission,,how to check fluid level

when you open your hood look in the back of the motor on the left side.. you should see a stick with a circle on the end of it for your finger have you vehicle running warmed up that means let it run for 10 or 15 min. and then pull the stick out.. wipe it off real good. stick it back in all the way.. pull it back out and hold it horizontally and check it.. it's sometimes hard to read because it has bubbles on it.. try it a couple of times to get an accurate reading good-luck ray

SOURCE: 2000 toyota echo, transmission won't shift to 4th

First thing to do is check the fluid level if that ok you may want to think about having the transmission filter and fluid changed, there are other possibilities but check these first

2000 Toyota echo . automatic . my car kicks when I drive from 0- 10 it gives a small kick when changes gears. Then once more from 10-20 mph . can this mean my transmission is going out?

Your car is 14 years old, and should have had the transmission fluid changed several times by now. When was the last time the fluid was changed and the filter replaced?

2003 toyota echo when shifting above 45 mph makes a loud high rpm noise especially on the highway

If it is not going into overdrive or lockup it could be the fluid or an electrical problem. Some of the shifting is controlled by solenoids now.
You may have to get a transmission shop to evaluate it for you.

warning you should get this done by a mechanic! but if you want to give it a go there will be a drain plug at the bottom of the gearbox, once drained tighten again.there will be another plug above the drain plug this is to fill the box.fill it to the top and tighten plug.make sure you use the recommended fluid.

Echo 2003-

Your clutch on your Echo is hydraulically operated. There are 2 cylinders, one is connected to the clutch pedal, and the other is on the transmission clutch release arm. Hydraulic fluid operates the clutch. With this system, there are no adjustments. If your clutch is "slipping", a replacement may be in order.
