My 2001 Sunfire gauges have been going out intermittently for months now. I've taken it to a shop and they couldn't determine anything. So far the following is what i've gathered personally. - All the gauges work intermittently. - Headlights so dim I cannot drive at night, but brighten when I brake. - If I put AC or heater on my gauges will go out immediately. - All my warning lights will come on as intermittent as the gauges. - Car runs and drives fine. - Check engine light stays on which has indicated a fuel system leak which new cap did not fix. Best we have come up with is a bad ground. I cleaned some grounding points and wires and the car does seem to start better, but problem persists. - New alternator - New Battery - Completely tune up I really don't want to spend more money shooting in the dark. Any ideas?

it does sound like a ground issue, but maybe other problems too. Check the connector to the cluster for tightness. Problem may be in the body control module, but I don't know where that is on your car. Cannot explain headlights getting brighter when brakes applied.

I had the same problem. Goodwrench looked at my car for 2 hours could not figure it out. Then they unpluged the body control module and plugged it back in and presto, problem solved.

SOURCE: 04 pontiac sunfire battery light and panel lights dim

sounds like your alternator. if you have a multimeter then turn on your car and turn your headlights on/ac and heater fan on high/wipers on and blinkers on. once they are all on hook the meter to the battery and if it reads less then 14 volts then the alt is bad. or you can just take it to a shop and have it tested.

Check your battery cable connections on the battery, starter, and ground. Might be dirty loose or damaged.

SOURCE: brighten headlamp lense

Polishing the lenses is a temporary fix and doesnt last long, and then its worse than it was to begin with. You can try with some plastic polish and get them the best you can or replace the headlights, There are several companies on the net that you can purchase lights from, just google Cadillac Headlights and shop around. .Make sure they are dim because of the lens and not an electrical problem.

Fuse for fuel pump on 2001 pontiac sunfire

There are some logical steps need to be taken 1st. Verify if the engine has air, fuel and spark. Fuel can be checked with an inline gauge at the fuel rail. There could be several different things wrong. Bad ECM, fuel pump, injectors, fuel pressure regulator etc. Need to verify spark, this too may have several different problems. Bad ECM again, power/ground circuit faults, coil pack ect.

As far as the battery size all the parts store needs is the make model and size engine,

and if its a top post or side post battery. that way they can match your car with the correct

battery. as far as the coolant problem, your car could be overheating, the thermostat may

not open when its supposed to. or you may just need a radiator flush. as far as your existing

battery, I would take it to an autoparts store where they can check it 1st, most autoparts

will not charge you for checking parts while you are there, unlike an automotive shop.

good luck!
