Toyota 2003 Car of 85kW 2.0 D4D diesel. Who have a similar experience with some of these engines. The problem is this: if the engine is warm and then lowering the engine speed, the car starts to twitch. The car starts to lose power. When holding the accelerator pedal at the bottom, nothing happens. Motor is thinking for 5-10 seconds, then throws a cloud of black smoke from the silencer. When the engine is cold, there is no problem. Cold start, idle, and acceleration is very good with a cold engine. When the engine reaches the normal operating temperature, the problem reveals. Then again, sometimes I can drive for a long distance with a warm engine, without that problem. Toyota service said that the problem is the engine nozzels. I switched off all four nozzles, which were very expensive. But the problem is still the same after that. So the nozzles were not causing this problem. Waiting for detailed advice.

You might want to check the MAF sensor(Mass Air Flow) and clean it with MAF/MAP cleaner. I am also kind of puzzled with this problem as I have a 2004 Corolla also, I only had power loss when my MAF went bad.

SOURCE: engine light, poor acceleration and bucking from engine

The evaporation canister can cause this, so would any vacuum leak. A faulty throttle position sensor or camshaft position sensor would also cause this but it would in the diagnostics most likely.

SOURCE: High idle speed when the engine is cold

The high idle speed at start up is normal. As the engine temperature increases, the engine idle should kick down automatically. Insofar as the emissions results, if there were a problem, the check engine light should be on. If it is, take the car to an autoparts store and have the fault codes read. Most parts stores will perform the scan for free. If the check engine light is not on, and the idle question was all you were worried about, you are good to go! Hope this helped and best wishes.

Toyota Fortuner 3l D4D Engine swings (cranks) longer than normal before start, at the same time the gear lever shakes violently when starting. I am really concerned about this.

Question edited for a lot more clarity. Never heard of a Toyota Fortuner before. In North America where we are, we call it cranking, but know the African continent is called swings.

For the gear lever shaking check the engine and transmission rubber mounting blocks. They can part from the metal mounts.

The engine is a 3 litre turbo diesel, so it probably just needs a good service, check compression, check glow plugs and injectors.

Toyota hilux pick up D4D has a hard start in the morning but ok after the first start, kindly advise

Have a compression test done to determine the engine condition. With the hard start and oil usage it points to a worn rings and a lower compression pressure than is required.

Hillux d4d 2.7 no start

ahhhh a diesel, that , is a horse of a different color.
not GAS but oil burner engine.! there is no spark on diesels...
it uses huge compression rates to combust.
1: glow plugs dead. (or its controls)
2: low compression,
3: bad fuel ,old fuel , water in fuel.
4: weak battery. old or weak for any reasons. cranks too slow.
5: if EFI , other complex reasons. direct injection is it?

Biofuel

It's possible your Hilux would run on that blend, but I don't believe Toyota would honor any warranty repairs (if you have any warranty). The cooking oil would have to be filtered to remove any particles, contaminants, or moisture before using it as these things would cause problems with your fuel system. Cooking oil will also gel up as the weather cools, so you would have to find a way to warm the oil to prevent that from happening. You would also have to find a way to keep the cooking oil and diesel fuel from separating.

You may want to check out the information on some of these web sites:
