My 1998 Ford Escort SE is stalling sometimes at highway speeds when I let off the gas. Starts right back, but concerned will get worse. What could be the cause? Sometimes does not do this for days and sometimes does more than once per day.

IAC (Idle Air Control Solenoid) Located on the throttle body, I would start by checking that out. Sometimes they can carbon up pretty bad and cause your issue.

1997 Ford Escort stalling when going 35 mph or less.

You may need to be looking at your Torque Converter being in LOCK UP and forcing it to stall because the Transmission is not letting go of the Motor...

You may also have a Plugged CAT CONVERTER

Test the Temp BEFORE and AFTER.. There should be an INCREASE of at least 100 degrees on the BACK from the Front

I have a 98 Ford Escort SE and the speedometer does it work. how much does it cost to fix the problem or is it easier to fix it your self?

The speed sensor is about 35 dollars and there not bad to do by yourself it's right above the passenger side axle. Just pull out the 10 mm bolt and use a chisle and hammer to catch the edge.

Quite possible idle speed control valve. Take it off and give a good clean. Its more than likely oiled up and a bit sticky.
