See diagram 1) Power steering pump 2) Alternator 3) Serpentine belt idler 4) Serpentine belt 5) Crankshaft 6) A/C belt 7) A/C compressor 8) A/C belt tensioner 9) Serpentine belt tensioner 10) Water pump
IF you have a serpentine belt it's not a matter of adjusting the power steering belt tension because it's done automatically with a serpentine belt tensioner.
OTOH, if you have a separate V-belt you'll need to loosen the mounting bolt/nut at the bottom of the steering pump and the adjustment bracket then tighten the belt by moving the adjustment nut to tighten the belt.
You might be able to google a video of your particular engine power steering belt adjustment.
the power steering pump locking up is the reason ur serpentine belt broke. on front of power steering pump is a pulley which must spin freely. when this pulley locks up, things break...and yes u definitely need a new power steering pump.
They do not stretch that much. That engine uses a serpentine belt. Something has gone bad that caused the belt to come loose. All pulleys must be inspected to diagnose the problem.
the serp belt is driven by the crankshaft pully and also has a tensioner may i suggest you check the crank pully it mayhave parted at the rubber damper and is spinning off line/back and forth also check the tensioner that runs on belt it may have failed or come loose
Your serpentine belt and timing belt are not the same thing. If your serpentine belt breaks, you will lose your alternator, your cooling system, air conditioning, and your power steering. In turn, it will leave you stranded in a very short period of time.
The power steering pump will have a tensioner you need to loosen. Then for the other belt. There is a tensioner located on the pass side. You can see it if you look down the pass side of the engine.
That is a valid question, but you should ask the shop that worked on it. Also do you know that the power steering pump will cure the problem? This remains to be seen....You can check one thing though...Look at the belt/pulley arrangement from the side. any pulley that is not exactly in line with all others, and any wobbling pulley is suspect. Serpentine belts are far less forgiving of these items than were "v" belts. Good luck
