Brake fluid absorbs moisture, and this can rust the insides of the brake system. The moisture was not that big of deal 10 years ago, but on ABS brake systems of today, the rust and other debris that accumulates in the fluid can do lots of internal damage, and can be very costly. Brake fluid can also break down over time from excess heat that is created from within the brake system.
Is recommend flushing the brake fluid system about every 30,000 miles, or at 30K, 60K and 90k tune up. It cost about $90, but you can do it by yourself. To do this flush, open the brake lines located at each wheel and allow the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder to "bleed by gravity", as continue to feed new fluid to the master cylinder until the fluid runs clear at all wheels. The discharge has to be collected in 16OZ plastic bottle via a clear vinyl hose from the bleeding nipple to the bottle. It is a good idea to replace all 4 nipples with new one. They are cheap and avoid problems in long run. Make sure to use at least DOT 4 brake fluid. Make sure to use a sealed bottle. The life of brake fluid in an open bottle is one week.

When the rear brakes were done, the entire brake
system should have been flushed. Do that
now

You flush the system every 2 years

There is no reason to top off ANY Vehicle
fluids, as none are consummed

Go back over the rear bake work, parking brake
system and check front brakes for need work

My altima seems sluggish when I press on the gas. It also humms a little bit. Could it be my exhaust? Do I need a tune up?I have 85,000 miles and haven't had any major problems so far.

85,000 miles. I hope their not the original spark plugs, air filter, gas filter, etc. Your flerting with break down maintanance.
If you haven't flushed the Transmission,Power Steering,Brake Fluid,Coolant,Etc,your also going to be sorry down the road, and have some major repair bills.

Brake system warning light stays illuminated during normal operation. Used to only come in when it was cold outside (i.e. winter). Gradually started getting worse. I could sometimes get it to go out when I...

You need to periodically check all the fluids in your truck. Even if you go to a lube place for service, at least watch the lube guy do it so you can be sure it is done. The warning light usually means service required, or imminent failure. You at least need to check the brake fluid in the master cylinder.

Brake fluid will attract water and I do change my fliud atout every 2 years by pressure bleeding.

Air in the system will give a warning light and spongy feel to the brakes.

Hopefully you just need to add fluid to the FULL line. But when was the last time you had your brake pads replaced? As the pads wear the fluid goes to the wheel hydraulics to keep what is left of the pads near the rotor/drums.

When should i change trans oil

One sure way to tell, is if your transmission fluid is not cherry red. Its supposed to be a bright red color. If its not, then you should have it flushed out and replaced. Good luck.
