SOURCE: M43 engine wont start, fuel pump maybe?

Does it crank when you try to start it?
Does it even makes the effort to hump a little and the goes off again?
Probably a good tune-up and a new gas pump and fuel filter and you should be good to go.

SOURCE: Idle problem

I've had an Idling problem with my 1993 318i E36. First, I would suggest getting the fault codes for your car. There are places where you can have these codes scanned for free such as autoparts stores. The fault codes will tell you which components aren't working properly. Based on my fault codes, I replaced the Idle Control Valve, the oxygen sensor, the camshaft position sensor, and the air intake boot. I could easily install all of these parts in less than an hour. All of these replacements cost me a total of about $200 and solved the problem completely. Granted, I did this myself. Look forward to the dealer charging you over $500 if you have as many problems as I did.

ISSUE: After a 1-4 hour engine soak time, long crank times and/or long crank to start followed by a stall may occur on some vehicles. No further stalling or rough idle will occur after the engine is running. The long crank and/or stall may be due to the Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve sticking.

2002 Jetta 1.8t cuts offs sporadically

Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

1996 Ford Taurus SHO 3.4. Intermittant starting problem. Welded cams. First instance a couple of months ago. Had it towed to a local shop. Once there the car started right up. They kept it for the day...

try replacing the gas cap,may be vapor locked, check throttle position sensor by holding the pedal to the floor while cranking,if it starts then replace the sensor,if not it probably works

I have a BMW E46 318 series, Whenever I Start the car and I use the car immediately, The machine shakes and no power, After a while the machine stabilized. Thanks, Allan

you did not state the yr of your model. A very typical problem in early e46 engines were in the Vanos. Does the car stutter or stall in cold weather starts? Does it hold it's idle? How is the power? DO you suffer power loss below 3000 rpm? These problems are related to a Vanos problem.....

Problems with starting

Coupla things:
1) I guesssed hot start - I think the system is dealing with gas volatility and trying to ensure that a minimum of unburnt fuel is released into the cat - in the long run, that is good for the air and your car. 2) Here is a tip which really is a tip for everyone for every start. Turn the key to on, but wait a second until you hear the fuel pump cut off - that means the fuel rail is fully pressuruzed, and the car should start right up, for a cold start. It may also reduce the longer crank times during a #1.
