Its probably your front actuator bolted on the pumpkin on the front axle it is a motor that controls a shaft that engages and locks your front end into fourwheel drive. It can easily be replaced by unplugging it from the harness unscrewing it from your pumpkin and installing the new one following these directions. Remember to disconnect the battery before doing this allowing your computer to reset itself.

If yours is electric shift, you will need a new shift solenoid installed in the tranny.

2000 Gmc sierra sle 1500 on the floor 4x4, 4x4 engages but nothing to the front wheels, the drive shaft spins, but still nothing, any suggestions?

Sounds like you need a front axle actuator. This actuator bolts to the side of the front differential housing. It is electrically engaged. You can purchase them online starting at about $40

I have a 1994 gmc 4x4 and the front axles wont engage

If Your Front CV shaft is broken it will not engage...Shaft can be in visibly good shape, but you might hear a knocking sound or a shutter when turning sharply. I had this problem this last winter. Get under the truck and try and turn the CV by hand. if it can be rotated, it is bad.

97 gmc sierra won't go into 4x4. Electronic

Take the front axle actuator out of the axle. Plug it back in and have some one push the 4x4 button. The actuator should move, it's a liniar motor. If it doesn't then the actuator is bad or there is a wiring problem. If it does there is a problem in your front diff or some where else in the system.
I'd take a guess and say it's the front actuator.

try going into reverse for 10 feet then go to drive for 10 feet that might help if not it is to the wiring to you 4x4 engage system (wires to your wheel hub)

1990 GMC Sierra 4x4 1500

the connections near the front axle that activate the motor to engage the system aren't melted? That's a comon problem for that body style. If there good, sounds like it could be that motor itself. To figure out if it's you motor or transfercase, jack up the rear end, have a friend inside shift into 4 wheel drive, or try to, and put it in gear and apply some gas. If the front driveshaft is turning then it's something with the front end. If not, farther back in the system.
