1992 Saab, Hello, My Saab ran out of petrol. I filled to half a tank but it still won't start. How to get this started?. Can i put petrol in the carburettor like a start spray, to hopefully boost and start the perol pumping?. Before when the car ran out of petrol it worked fine, Thanks

As long as you didn't start it & they got it all the gasoline out you're fine.

Your fuel pump works better and last longer when the fuel in your tanx is more than half filled because it makes the fuel pump to be fully submerged in the fuel and it cools the fuel pump in that process.

if u just ran out of gas and it wont start first put gas in it if u have all ready done that make sure your putting at least a half tank in so you fuel pump can start up again. if it still wont start give it a bit then put it into acc just before start e brake on go to the back of your car to your gas tank under your car not were u fill and lisen for a buzzing noise thats the pump if u do not get that bring it in for maintenance.

You need to drain the tank and fill it back up with Deisel. Also, if you ran the car make sure and change the fuel filter. It may start a little hard and sputter at first but it should be okay. These accidents happen once in a while but it shouldnt hurt as long as you dont run it with the petrol in it.

HAVE YOU CHECKED THE FUEL LINES WHERE THE FUEL PRIMING PUMP IS CONNECTED FOR ANY CHAFFING THEY ARE COMMON FOR CHAFFING BESIDE THE FUEL FILTER WHICH WOULD EXPLAIN WHY FUEL IS RETURNING TO FUEL TANK.

take of the fuel sender hose of tank and be prepared to catch any spills wen finshed fill with deisel

I had same problem with petrol gauge bouncing around all over the place, full tank, half a tank and nearly empty in the space of 10 miles.

I knew that if I filled the tank I would get approx 200 miles for half a tank so I did that for a while and just kept topping up. Audi testing it and the fuel sensors in the tank had to be replaced. I'm afraid its the only permanent solution!
