I had a 94, and now an 02, and have experienced some of the same problems. You would see a problem with the Bushings in tire wear. If you experience pulling or drifting to the same side as your last turn, have your balljoints checked.

Check your tire pressure, especially if this is a recent problem or you use a Quick change oil place. Make your tires harder by inflating them while staying below the Max amount. If you have tires with soft sidewalls the float will not go away.

The fronts have shocks. An alignment would show if bushings were needed. I put a 100,000 miles on my 94 after replacing the shocks, but they were replaced at 61000 giving the total 161,000 on the Air suspension. My 02 is still factory equipped.

This series of cars were durable vehicles. Any handling problem pointed to tires and Alignment. So far shocks are staying reasonable priced and you can get good deals on the Web, but deal with firms who give free shipping.

1994 Mercury Grand Marquis temp gauge reads hot

Check sending unit, Ford/Mercury put out a TSB, technical service bulletin : Article No. 95-13-2 07/03/95, on erratic temp sender units.
You troubleshoot as follows :
  1. Turn ignition switch to On or ACC position.
  2. Connect a 10 ohm resistor between gauge lead and ground. The centerline of pointer should fall within the band around the H mark.
  3. Connect a 73 ohm resistor between gauge lead and ground. The centerline of pointer should fall within the band around the C mark.
  4. If gauge tests within calibration, replace sender.
  5. If gauge is out of calibration, replace gauge.

Good engine swap for a 94 grand grand marquis

Another 4.6 out of a '94 Grand Marquis. If you can. That way all the sensors will be correct and the wiring harness will plug-and-play. You can install almost any 4.6 but, depending on the year, there's going to be a lot of issues making them work with the electronics in your '94 Marquis.
