Transmission fluid in coolant

Overflow from coolant bottle with red transmission fluid in it

  • markbtnc Jul 20, 2008

I have a 1997 T&C with a 3.8, Had a leak commig from the transmission. Thought it was comming from the solinoid pack on the front of the trans. Installed new updated solinoid pack and trans stopped leaking or so I thought. I later found that the transmission is forcing fluid out the breather on top of the gear shift linkage. It only happens when when the car has been run for a period then parked and turned off. Oil will spill out of breather. I know the trans is not over full.

Does it burn the automatic clutch out when you drive it? I have only did 2 or 3 test drives after flushing the whole systen (2 or 3) times. No long drives at all. Im experiencing the same problem but MILKSHAKE PINK transmission fluid is not in reservior. Only MILKSHAKE PINK on transmission dipstick. Im going to take the advice on changing the transmission lines from the transmission on my 1992 cadillac deville. I know its been a long time since some one have posted on here but please help me out. Im a young male thats just experiencing car trouble and I really depend on my cadillac to get me back and forward to work. And solutions and if CHANGING THE TRANSMISSION LINES WOULD RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS please email me. My email is [email protected]. God bless.

Well depending on how much this may not matter. Could you expand on how much transmission fluid got into the coolant system. Or are you trying to figure out how transmission fluid got in the reservoir?

Please update me on this situation in a little more detail and I would be glad to help you out

2006 jeep grand Cherokee limited if the radiator overflow jug is empty will it cause the transmission temp light to come on

I would say it is possible an overheated engine which is not coolling the transmission can trigger a lot of lights. Many transmissons are heated and coolled by a line which goes to the radiator of the engine cooling system.

1999 ford ranger 3.0 heater wont get hot. blend door is working. truck blows whatever the air temp is out side with heater on hot.

That means either you have a vapour lock, your water pump has failed, or your thermostat isn't opening. It is not easy for a non-mechanic to put coolant into a vehicle... more often than not you get a vapour lock. Sometimes this happens if you don't check your overflow bottle daily, (or weekly). If you have no habit of checking your tires, your oil, your brake fluid, your signals, transmission fluid etc then it is easy for you to neglect your overflow bottle. If the coolant gets all the way to the bottom then your radiator will start emptying daily into your overflow bottle and causing you problems.

How to replace a A/T over run clutch solenoid on a 2006 Nissan frontier truck

what is wrong with the trans? i would start with checking your coolant in radiator and overflow bottle. let truck cool off and check coolant. make sure its nice and clean and green in color. not milky white. start there and let me know. we have seen radiator issues where coolant mixes with trans fluid and destroys trans. other than that those transmissions are pretty bullet proof. if your coolant is milky color, then that is a big problem. you will need new trans and radiator replaced. and to answer your question, the solenoid pack is inside of the transmission bolted to the valve body. you will need to open the unit from the bottom and replace solenoid pack.start with checking coolant first.

Where do u put the water in on a colt? Can't find it?

A tank used for storing excess coolant; connected to the cooling system with a small-diameter overflow hose.

The coolant reservoir is the bottle, under the hood, that holds the radiator fluid. it is also known as a overflow bottle. When the car gets hot,the overflow bottle, releases steam to relive the pressure in the radiator. excess coolant is also stored here.

A red service light keeps coming on and off a small rectangle that looks like a battery with a fluid level at the bottom and an arrow pointing down i lost my manual and forgot what it means

rw77766, This sounds like you have a low coolant light coming on. When your engine is cold, check the coolant level and add some if needed. Also check the overflow bottle and see if there is any coolant in there. If not then, once again, add some to the level indicated on the side of the bottle. If the problem persists, then you have a coolant leak or bad coolant level sensor and should have it checked out. Good luck with this.

What liquids go in each resevoir?

Coolant in 50% concentration goes into the coolant overflow bottle. Windshield wiper fluid into the wiper fluid bottle. Power steering fluid into the power steering fluid bottle.
You do not need to add any other fluids to these. Do not add water to the washer fluid bottle for example, if you drive in a climate that would allow it to freeze.

Overflow losing coolant

this is an overflow tube.
have you checked the radiator itself to see if it is low? need to do this only when engine cool.
if radiator is low and you just add to bottle it will **** it all out until radiator is filled properly.

alright, so you added transmission fluid because it was low and you didn't spill any into the radiator fluid and it didn't spill over into the radiator at all correct? Well you are right in thinking with the radiator as there is a transmission cooler that is inside the radiator. If this is cracked, or the lines leading from the transmission to the cooler inside the radiator are cracked, the fluid gets into the cooling system. So either you have to fix the crack which May be possible but the easier fix will probably be the replacement of the radiator. You should get this fixed as soon as possible as you don't want the transmission fluid to be low while driving the car. And there really isn't any other place for the fluids to be mixed together so you are totally right in thinking. good luck on the replacement and let me know if you need anything else
