From the exhaust manifold you have a pipe going down to the first box(cat converter),the lambda probe(o2 sensor) is between these two.looks like a tube sticking out the side.

first make sure you have no close in silence ( catalatic ) exhaust line ) , second make sure the Oxgen sensor is connect (lambda) ,and the timing is ok. intake manufold sensor remove and clean , for catalatic you can loose bolts only to check and accelerate.good luck.
I bought a 2000 polo 1.4 yesterday after having an MOT. The warning lamp came on today but the car is running fine. Whether its the Lambda sensor or just the light itself is a common fault, I think garages turn off the lights to get it through the MOT then they come on again in a day or two!
My polo 1.4i 2003 model when i start the engines it does but starts to work only three cylinder i suppose. What can i do? Will be the plugs problems? or the ignition coil? Please tell what I have to do now.
Hello, VW polos 1.0, 1.4. 1.6, suffer from carbon bulid up in the throttle bodys causing bad idling, esp the Bosch Mono-Motronic (Throttle Body Injection systems), a good clean with carb cleaner should repair the problem, also engine temp sensor replacement and idle speed control valve replacement can help idle problems.
2 if all sensors are working good than check your engine firing sequence,some times happens when sequence was wrong,
3 check your exhaust and carborator tuning pin that creates the batter combination for firing in bore for batter performance & less emitions ,so check is it ok or not than go to your nearest service center that havad certified mechanics,
