2001 F350 Charging problems

My 2001 F350 quit starting when the batteries went dead. (thought they were old). Replaced the Batts- and then had the alternator tested. Diod was bad. Replaced the alt-. Problems were gone for about 2 weeks. Suddenly the batts were dead again and the batt light came on. Same problem. Is there something else that could be kiling the alt-. Has there been any recalls on this issue with alternators and batteries???

Actually the only thing i can recomend is to have the alternator replace again for warranty and before starting the truck charge the batteries very well with a baterie charger make sure to charge them individually because with a low batterie the alternator has to put a lot of load and might burnt again
specially with dual batterie.

Have a 2001 F350 7.3 - 3 weeks ago drove it and let set for an hour came out and was completely dead - no radio, lights, nothing. Tried jump starting ended up putting in 2 new batteries. Did the same...

Have the charging system checked. Autozone, Advance, and Oreilys will do it free. Check Diodes.

Some production years had a weird problem. Its worthy of mention but since you replaced the batteries, it should not apply. Watch your Charge, Voltmeter as sometimes the Alternator will disconnect automatically WHILE DRIVING at even 70mph. The system monitors your vehicle for PARASITIC drains and automatically disconnects the power connection as part of a Battery Saver.

So if Battery levels fall, causing the Alternator to work too hard to recharge a drained system, it will disconnect the charging circuit. Even if if you used a boost to jump the truck, it will charge for maybe 5 minutes and then disconnect.

Now for the battery to drain in 1 hour, you should have a glowing part. About the only thing which could drain that much power is a Rear window defroster or a stuck timer or power relay on the glowplug system.

The glowplugs could be remaining energized and you would not know it. A grounding starter could drain the system. Have a draw test performed.

Most anything else would break a fuse or burn a wiring connection.

Clean the Negative battery cable and if mounted to the block, check the engine to frame strap.

Please rate my info.

Truck is draining charge and not charging battiers

I just went thru same thing with my 2003 f-350 diesel. I hooked up my horse Trailor and drove to Von's parked went in came back out and truck was dead. I tried to jump it didn't work. Then over next two hours two tow truck Drivers hooked up to both batteries full power charge direct to my truck and would not start.
End story required two new batteries alternator and cilanoid discussed above. In other post. Also contributing to the cause was really badly coroded cables they looked good at the connection point but wher discovered to be coroded inside the tubing just above the end connections so bow it has all been replaced and I have had no trouble since. Hope this helps. Tanya

01 sunfire battery is not charging

I had a similar problem once and it turned out to be the ignition coil. Ran fine cold but once everything was heated up it broke a connection and went dead. I wonder if you might be having the same thing but in the alternator? Just a thought.

Batteryis dead

Need more info - How old is battery? can you jump start? etc. If you can jump start it, take it to a local parts store like Autozone, Advance, etc and have them test your charging system and battery. Note if battery went dead, you're going to need your code to re-activate your factory radio.

You can try this. You can buy inexpensive system testers that have Yellow Red Green lights that will give you a better idea of your charging system.Strauss Stores,Auto Barn,Pep Boys have them. Some plug into gig lighter, some have clips to go on battery/connections.You have to get the motor started to use,so jump or charge the battery.I'm thinking loose connection, bad ground.Good Luck.
