I have a 1996 Eldorado. Every so offten, I experience an issue as if the car is going to stall. It gets very rough, and the service engine light comes on, and blinks, but after a few moments, it smooths out again. This is a very intermitant issue, but just a few days ago, the car stalled, and was very hard to start. Once started, it was roughter than normal (as stated above). This has since, smoothed out a little, but not to normal standards. Could this be an issue with the ignition system (coils, or ignition module) or a much bigger problem, like a valve issue? Please advise. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this situation.

    Plugs were changed only a few months ago, and I have about 170,000 miles on it. The oil is fairly new, as I have a mild oil leak around the pan gasket, that causes me to add a quart of oil every two weeks, but a complete oil and filter change was done about six months ago, with only about 3000 miles added. I am going out to the car to check the codes as we read. Thank you for your responce.

    I acceced the computer via an acces procedure. I pushed the ac off button, while pushing the passenger temp button at the same time, them the codes were shown on the instrument display on the dash.

    I have a friend that has such a system. I will contact him and see if it is set up for GM products. I have in the past been told that the system I access is for all systems in the car, but I feel that they may be limited. I was able to detect an issue with suspention issues with it, but not all issues. Your information so far, has helped me learn that there are areas of diagnostics I will not be able to get to without proper equipment. I will give you the codes, as soon as I am able to get them. Is this OK?

    It helped me to look deeper into what the problem might be. With that being said, I found that the issue is not ignition, but something bigger. I will be doing work on the valves at the #7 cylinder, which may be sticking, or need to be replaced.

    I have a pressure reading of 0 in the #7 cylinder. I have a sucking sound comming from under the intake, which leads me to believe that I have a stuck valve. I will be removing the valve cover and checking clearences, and make sure that the rocker spring is not broke (if they used this old tech on this type of car). Your engine condition could be caused by many factors, and is difficult to pin point without knowing if there are any PCM trouble codes stored in memory. If the check engine light lites up, I am sure you would have a coded stored in memory, and would be the first place a I or a Technician would check before proceeding with diagnostic procedures. With this being said, When was the last time spark plugs or other maintenance was performed on this vehicle? How many miles are on the vehicle?

    Your vehicle is an OBDII system, and the codes your giving me are not OBDII. How did you get these codes and where were they displayed?

    You need to connect a code reader to the ADL (assembly line diagnostic link) to access the PCM trouble codes. The codes your retrieving are for the climate control module.

Sounds like you might have an intermittent misfire at one or more of the cylinders. Especially if the check engine light is blinking. A blinking check engine light indicated a misfire. I would start by looking at all the plugs, coils and wires to see which one is misfiring. But it is definitely in the ignition circuit. If you have the codes pulled from the engine control module it should tell you what cylinders are misfiring. The engine control module will store the codes even if the check engine light is no longer on.

Does not idel well some time engin light comes on missies for 2 secomds

1996 mercury mystique stalls when I stop a red light

I am a Ford tech (35 years) and this is the cause of the problem in about 90% of the cars I see with this problem.
Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

1996 Eldorado Emission Light comes on

Depends on what valve they are talking about. The Eldorado is a hard car to get to things. The emmitions control valve is the most probable cause of the light. You should be able to see this on top of the motor it has a tube going to it from the exhaust. You will need a new valve, gasket, and some basic hand tools.

o2 will not make your car do that you have other issues check for secondary ignition miss or primary ignition miss sounds like you are dropping a cylinder dumping raw fuel to contaminate 02 sensor find the real problem to fix your light

95 cadillac eldorado engine stalls rough idle check engine light is on

I have a 1994 Cadillac Eldorado and every time i start it the car has rough Idle and the Idle fluctuate's. I also can feel it in the gas pedal when the car is doing this I tried replacing the throttle body sensor but it still does it I also was told it was the Idle error sensor. So instead of spending the unecessary money again I thought I would go online and see if anyone could help me with this problem.
