2001 Chevy Blazer 4 wheel drive

So my four wheel drive went out, i had a mechanic replace the push button on the dash, was told that wasnt it and it was the actuating motor. So I replaced it, it does the same thing it did before. It starts in four wheel drive, and if i hit the auto four wheel drive button then the two wheel drive button it tries to but then turns off completely till the car is restarted.. I have no idea what is wrong with it, i'm going to take it to a shop to have the four wheel drive read by one of those computers and see what it says, any ideas though????

my truck does almost the same thing except it goes into 4low by its self all the time and is hard to get back into 2high so i removed the fuse to stop the 4wheel drive from working all together it has to be something in the electrical.

my 2001 blaser 4 wheel drive was working fine but now when i push the button for four wheel i don't see the light and dose not go in 4 wheel check the fuse and that was ok

I have a 2000 Blazer and have had the actuator motor replaced as well. My problem is that it says on the dash the 4 wheel drive has engaged , but in actual fact it hasn't. It sounds like it has but no go.

says its in 4 wheel drive but nothing happens

  • scottvk Jan 24, 2009

I tried Mikehumble's solution to the no 4hi engaging problem by resetting the 4wd computer. Now it only works in 2hi (4lo donesn't respond any longer, even though it worked before, bot I could only do 50k). All 3 led's light up when ignition is turned on, now neither 4hi or 4lo respond to being pressed. Any ideas?

  • scottvk Jan 24, 2009

Oops, I checked again, and I didn't follow Mike's instructions properly. I pulled the cur.light and 4wd fuses, not the atc. I tried it again, pulling the light fuse by the wheel, and the atc fuse under the hood, but I still have only 2wd. The 4wd fuse is fine, but I think my misteak messed something up?? Any suggestions?

The four wheel drive systems in these vehicles are simple. The push button controls the four wheel drive computer. The computer tells the encoder motor (on transfer case) to shift. When the transfer case shifts there is a vaccum switch on the transfer that is activated which sends vaccum to the accuator under the battery. The accuator pulls a cable to lock the front axle in. This covers all s series trucks and suv's with push button four wheel drive but not with auto or all wheel. Now to answer some questions. If your push button is lit up but will not go in to four high you should try to reset the four wheel drive computer. To reset pull the courtesy light and atc fuses for sixty seconds install fuses then cycle key on and off 5 times. If your transfer case shifts but your front end does not lock in check for vaccum at the switch on the transfer case in and out. If no vaccum out replace switch motormite number 49315 at parts store. If you have vaccum out check accuator.

You can also check the vacuum lines and diaphram that are located underneath the battery shelf. Comes out really easy. Check that the lines are not broken. There is a vacuum line that runs to the solenoid in the center of the fire wall, as previously stated by 'speedfreek' and there is an actuator cable that runs to the transfer case. Sometimes it is as easy as replacing the vacuum hose, or the diaphram under the battery shelf went bad. If you ever had a battery leak acid because it went bad.....that acid goes under the shelf and eats those lines.

Chevy blazer problems

Hi Cecily,
There are several parts to a blazer 4x4.
First is the transfer case,When you push the button for four wheel, can you hear you it locking up,by pushing the buttons from 4x2 to 4x4 ?
If you here a slight clunking sounds its working. Next Blazers now have to lock in the front wheels. This is done by a vacuum assist. There is a vacuum line from the engine that runs over and under the battery. If it looks like it is attached at the engine, The next part is harder. You need to remove the battery to expose the servo valve that the vacuum is suppose to work. You can start the engine before taking the battery out, it will stay running. Pull the vacuum off the servo to see if its moving.if not replace it. if it is moving, there is a small relay mounted on the fire wall in the center of the fire wall, replace it.

I have a 1996 chevy blazer and dont know how to disengage from four wheel drive to two wheel drive?

As I recall the 96 blazer had electronic shifting for 2wd to 4wd. There should be a small panel on the drivers dash buttons for 2wd, 4wd lo and 4wd hi.

Simply press the desired button while stationary and if the system is functioning properly then it will shift and the light for the engaged type of drive will be lighted. Generally you would like to be in 2wd for this vehicle.

try pulling the fuse for the 4wd and see if it needs replacement if not leave it out for a few minutes before replacing it as this will allow it to reset .

also check all the vacuum lines and especially
