Speedometer works, but odometer doesn't. - 1990 Dodge W150

Strange punctuation and capitalization. That should be one sentence with one period at the end.

The law says you only need a working speedometer. To fix the odometer, you would need to remove the unit and send it for repair. Usually the speedo fails, especially because it is cable operated. It appears to be a known issue. Video and articles in the link.

If the speedo does not work but the odometer does, the problem may be in the speedo head on the dash. If the odometer also does not work the problem may be the speed sensor in the transmission.

Have the dealer do a speedometer accuracy test. They have a special tool that can electronically read the speed and then compare it to the readout of the odometer.

are you saying that the odometer does not roll over the miles and that the speed of water does register the current speed?
Usually if the odometer is not working it is a problem inside the speedometer unit in the dash.If neither is working then you may have a broken connection to the unit on the transmission that sends electrical information to the speedometer.I hope this helpsregards
