Toyota Emina 1995 2.2 TD. On long journies with fuller loads, the temp guage goes in the red after an hours drive. We pull over or nurse car into services (putting fan on full blast to cool engine) . When we check , there is water in the system, no hose or radiator leaks and gasket I am told is OK. Car seems to loose a bit of water and needs topping up, but then drives OK at moderate speeds. Why is it overheating?

most temp guages use color coding instead of numbers because its less confusing to most drivers..red generally means operating temps are higher than is reccomended by the manufacturer to run safely.. this should tell you to check the overall systen for issues like low coolant or malfunctioning parts in the system...most guages I have ever seen run close to halfway up most of the time..(except my 92 dodge which stays under a quarter way over unless its parked in heavy traffic then it goes way up and I am forced to turn on the heater in extweme cases..) just to be sure , look over the system or have someone who knows look at it to insure it is fine. otherwise you will need to idle the car in a parked spot and just observe it for about a half hour and see if it overheats or anything...good luck..
the only thing i think could be possible is that you have air in the cooling system still !
how old is the radiator cap and the seal on the inside of it, it might be letting air into the system
hope this is usefull
There may be more to it.. Transmission- P.T.O(Front wheels)-Rear Differential(Rear wheels). Or may have Transmission-Transfercase drives front differential(Front wheels) and rear differential(Rear wheels). So if one was rebuilt there should still be another that is still the root of the problem. Find out what exactly was rebuilt.
hi you would have an automatic i have a book manual and the a/t oil temp warns that the automatic transmission fluid temp too high.if it comes on while driving pull over and put the selector in p with engine idling wait till light goes off. if it doesnt contact toyota dealer. might be temp sensor.see how you go with this solution
