I have a 2000 ford focus the power steering is leaking out of a sensor on back of pump auto Part store can't find a sensor in there system what is it sensor caller ?

Most likely the seals on either the pump or the rack and pinion. Could be a leaking hose between the two. Might be a loose or leaking hose connection at the pump or at the rack and pinion. If you lose the fluid in a short period of time it shouldn't be to hard to find the leak, and you are also smelling it burn when it hits the the exhaust pipes. Refill the system and with the engine running have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you look at the pump, lines, and at each end of the rack and pinion. you WILL find the leak.
It could be leaking inside the dust boot on the steering rack. if thats it ...it will eventually start leaking from the boots after they fill up. You could have a small leak from one of the lines. Good Luck
im quite sure this will be the power steering fluid leaking, IF the coolant level is staying full. check level of steering fluid its a reddish colour but can become pink when leaking and mixed with water etc. hope this helps
There are 2 things that cause power steering to go stiff. The power steering pump itself either from failure or "lack of fluid" and the rack and pinion assy under the car.
Most of the time the failure is the power steering pump itself. The teflon rollers fail inside the pump and it either stops providing an output pressure or it seizes up. You can loosen the power steering pump belt then try to rotate the pump by hand. It should move by hand. If it feels like it is intermittently locking up as you rotate, it the teflon rollers have failed and the pump will need to be replaced.
the grinding noise you hear is the pump out of fluid you need to find and repair the leak then check the pump it may be u/s if no oil in it and it has been run
you have a power steering leak, when in full lock position the power steering pump is actually sucking in air and this is your noise. you will have to locate the leak and replace the leaking part and fill it to proper level.Ford will accept trans fluid for power steering fluid.
