Bmw 318i e46 idle bad

My 1999 318i e46 bmw is hunting badly on tick over i have replaced the air breather pipe comin from the rocker box and made no differance

I have a bmw E46 which is hunting when left to idle, its fine untill the engine reaches operating temperature. The ECU is showing fault code P0171 is present, which suggests an air leak. Any ideas where from? The diagnostic computer also suggests it could be the MAF sensor however the MAF sensor seems to be operating ok when looking at the live data.

You need to replace the throttle position sensor This will fix the engine RPM. All the best.

I GOT AN 2005 E46 318I AUTO BMW .WHEN ITS COLD IT DRIVES OK AS SOON IT REACH TEMPERATURE THE CAR START JURKING AND THEN NO POWER .IF YOU PUT IT IN NUTRAL THEN IT ALSO BATTLE TO REV .WHAT CAN CORS THAT PROBLEM.

  • sl13bmw Oct 31, 2018

You have a lean fuel mixer after the engine rich worm temperature , during the worm up the computer open the injectors for longer time this will dump more fuel ,and the engine will run rich until he rich worm temperature then the computer will stop damping fuel . To adjust the fuel mixer you need to adjust in the air flow meter .All the best.

check your radiator for blockage, and have your cylinder block check for blockage. If everything is ok there. it could be the cylinderhead gasket has blown, and need's replacing.

Idle problem

Try to disconnect the Air Flow Meter. It is the first plug just before the air filter/air intake box. If this improves your situation you will need to source a new or aftermarket Air Flow Meter.

Idle problem

I've had an Idling problem with my 1993 318i E36. First, I would suggest getting the fault codes for your car. There are places where you can have these codes scanned for free such as autoparts stores. The fault codes will tell you which components aren't working properly. Based on my fault codes, I replaced the Idle Control Valve, the oxygen sensor, the camshaft position sensor, and the air intake boot. I could easily install all of these parts in less than an hour. All of these replacements cost me a total of about $200 and solved the problem completely. Granted, I did this myself. Look forward to the dealer charging you over $500 if you have as many problems as I did.
