I have a problem with the starter on my 1996 bmw 318i , the car starts at times, and ater i turn it of then try to star it again it wont start. i put in a new starter but it still dose the same. when i try to star the car it ingages but then winds down. is there a relay or some other part that works with the starter motor?

SOURCE: cant find transmission dip stick in 1996 bmw 318i

this model does not come with a dipstick. does require special tool to remove transmission fill plug on the side of the transmission. just fill to the top of the fill hole.

BMW 318i starts fine but once you drive it for 5 minutes switch it off, it wont start again.

sounds like a engine sensor i'd guess at the crank sensor but to be sure you would need to get the OBD codes read , this will give the exact fault so wont waste money trying sensor(s) on a hit an miss basis,you can buy a code reader online not expensive just make sure it covers your vehicle make then you have a valuable diag equipment for future use

My BMW 1996 318i won't seem to start. Sometimes it would but most of the time I'm stuck trying start it, battery seems fine radio etc works, engine won't turn over though. Don't know what the problem

i see dash lights on when you try start engine.could have faulty starter relay or bad starter solenoid or starter bad.use a 12 volts test light see if power going to starter.if starter circuit okay could have theft security problems because BMWS did have theft security key ignition system back in 1994.

The Started wire, Is generally referred to as a Hot wire that goes to the Positive (+) terminal of your starter solenoid.

Unless you have clear knowledge of the task your trying to accomplish, I'd advise taking it to a mechanic, or buying a Haynes Manual.

BMW 318i wont start engine

I would have the battery tested. When they get cold they get weak. Next I would look at the wires on the starter to see if their loose.

M43 engine wont start, fuel pump maybe?

Does it crank when you try to start it?
Does it even makes the effort to hump a little and the goes off again?
Probably a good tune-up and a new gas pump and fuel filter and you should be good to go.
