I'm hearing a squealing/whining sound from the drivers side front area, but very randomly. It seems to come and go on whim with no apparent outside influences such as speeding up, applying brakes, turning, or anything else. The only thing it does consistently is it stops making that noise when the vehicle slows to a near stop or is stopped. When it happens, it is always when the car is in motion. BUt again, it starts and stops at random times when in motion. I just noticed this about a week and a half ago, and I think it's sorta been happenin more frequently or at least for longer periods of time when it does happen. Do you know what that could be? Thanks, Brent

SOURCE: Brakes are making loud grinding noise when slowing down to stop or on an incline

Ok, it could be a few things, 1. bad break caliper. 2. if you have ceramic breaks, it could be a cracked brake pad, and if they are not ceramic they can still be cracked. 3. if you drive a lot then it could be that you need new breaks again.. 4. also have your back breaks checked along with the front ones..

SOURCE: 97 4runner making a low whirring noise/whine from engine.

Could be a possible break down of the plug wires. Seems that I remember hearing if your plug wires are breaking down inside and if its up against the motor you can hear something that sounds like interference in your radio. Just a thought, might want to check it out.

I am getting a whine from front of my cobalt 2007 also. it starts at 30 mph and stops at 29 mph. thought it could be bearing. but it seems to sound as though its in he middle front, cant be sure.

When you hear the whine when driving, move the steering slightly side to side.If you can change the whine,it is a wheel bearing.Once the car is lifted, spinning each front wheel by hand with the other hand on the strut, you should feel roughness through the suspension from one or both of the front wheels.Roughness or looseness means a bad bearing.

High Pitched Whine

A high pitched whine like that indicates a bad bearing. Water pump, power steering pump, accessory belt slipping, alternator bearing, or in the worst case scenerio, Transmission pump.

If what you hear is a whine, not a belt squeal, then this could be a sign that the power steering pump is going bad. However, before you jump to this conclusion, and if you have not done so already, try flushing the steering system and refill with fresh fluid, as the problem could be due to old or frothy fluid.

Apparently the whine is car speed related and not engine speed. I'm surprised that you didn't say anything about checking the wheel bearings?
