Re: Nissan dealer says that I need to replace my MAF...
Dealers do not clean the MAF sensor heated wire, there is no way they can guarantee that it will permanently fix the problem, why don't you clean it? u can buy the cleaner from any parts store
I'm have absolutely NO under the hood experience and wouldn't even know where to start, would probably do further damage.I'm have absolutely NO under the hood experience and wouldn't even know where to start, would probably do further damage.

Check Catalytic converter by removing O2 sensor temporarily...if it runs properly, replace catalyst...if it does not, check and clean, IAC valve and MAF sensor...use MAF cleaner only....
Was this problem there prior to MAF replacement? Was the battery disconnected during the replacement? If so, the computer will require an idle relearn. Was it replaced with a new sensor? Used one? Did you inspect the pins on the sensor for being bent or the electrical plug for its connections being stretched? Try wiggling the connector at the sensor to see if the problem corrects itself
Remove air cleaner assembly, it will be on the passenger side of the throttle body. Its secured by two phillips screws and a 3-wire harness. I'd suggest cleaning it with MAF cleaner before removing/ replacing as they are not cheap. $300 at parts store/ dealer or $75 on ebay.
Three areas you should look for: o2 sensor, MAF sensor and the EGR valve. Try cleaning the EGR and MAF and also clean the fuel injectors using injector cleaners. This should solve your problem. If required, also replace the air and fuel filters.
Your MAF sensor is malfunctioning. You can try to unplug it and clean the contacts and plug it back in and see if that works. If not simply replace the MAF sensor. This is what causes limp mode in Nissan's.
You will probably have a P1102 code which will tell you "Traction Control Solenoid" which amounts to your MAF sensor is in range but lower than expected. Your vehicle is probably bogging out at RPM's that it normally functions fine at.
After you clean the contacts make sure to have Auto Zone reset the code for you. If your car goes into limp mode again just throw in a new MAF sensor and again have the computer reset at Auto zone (free).
P1128 is a lean condition, try cleaning the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. You can buy a can of MAF cleaner at most auto parts store like Auto Zone, and they will have the instructions for you to remove the MAF. Try cleaning it first and then disconnect the battery, just make sure the radio is off first before you disconnect the battery. If the DTC 1128 is still there, the MAF may be bad and needs to be replaced but before you replace the MAF. Check with the Hyundai dealer for any TSB on that code. Good luck and keep me posted. The dealer want $270.00 for the MAF sensor!!
ouch!! scouted around...NAPA has them for $105.00. Most local
salvage yard for $35.00 - $75.00
do you mean P0171?? If so, then it means your MAF sensor may be dirty and needs to either be cleaned or replaced. It could also mean there's a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor
