Hi all , looking for help with the folding mirrors on a liberty, do belive its a common problem, but dont want to replace the mirrors, as they are like new, and the motor sounds like its working on both mirrors ,they just will not fold?any ideas as to a quick fix?without replacing motors, anybody had this problem before and fixed it?
any help would be welcomed,Oh as I,m in england ,cannot just pop round to a breakers for bits

hi thanks for the reply, yes have checked the switch & it,s ok, the mirrors did work, just got lazy then packed it, there is no problem with altering the angle of the mirrors that workd fine as does the heated part ,it just the fact the fold back part has gone faulty, i can here the motor working but the mirrors just dont work, was thinking there might be a lug or something thats not engaging of has broken, just wondering if anybody has a diagram of the way the motor moves the mirror? that would be a help

The passenger's side mirror on my 2002 Jeep Liberty is loose. The mirror itself inside the housing is not loose but the entire housing itself. It should stay in a fixed position for use but it is loose and swings in towards the door when the vehicle is moving. It's as if some part is missing that allows this to happen. What can I do to fix it?

We've had the same problem with our Liberty/Cherokee. It was fixed once under warranty and whatever they did it did not involve replacing the mirror. Sometimes it can be fixed by moving the mirror by hand, to get everything to re-engage, but even that stops working after a while. My guess is something jumps out of place and has to be re-seated, but I've been trying to find out how you do that, too.We've had the same problem with our Liberty/Cherokee. Thanks to stupid design, the only way to fix this is to replace the whole mirror. I had the same problem as Samaritan 183 so I took the door trim off to get at the mirror only to find that the cover over the motor and gears has a clip heat welded in place. So, is may only need a gear slipped back tinto place, but you can't open it up to do it. Haven't Jeep designers ever had their mirrors whacked in a parking lot?

did you check the switch for the mirrors sometimes its just a simple fix as replaceing a faulty switch
the switch would go out faster then the conventional mirror would try a replacement switch

Folding or 'power' mirrors were usually an option not a standard part. Take a good look at the twist switch for the mirror adjustment. There should be a logo printed on it if it is fitted, see photo. To operate them it is usually a push down or in action on the window adjuster switch in the middle position.

parts are replaceable, and to what LEVEL
FYI< some bodies of jeeps have sub models and mirrors change.
you can walk in to jeep and look at their screen or

on some cars the inside mirror parts are replaceble
others are not.

some modles come with folding mirrors, they are called break aways, this is so if some one hits it it will fold, it does not mean that it will not break,, yours has stationary one piece, more prone to breaking.
The power mirrors are controlled by a module (computer) DDM - drivers door module an the PDM - passenger door module .

The folding mirror system requires signals from 2 separate switches. The mirror select switch must be in the neutral/fold position and the mirror direction switch must be activated to the left/extend or right/retract positions. Both switches are integrated into the DDM and provide direct signals.

Upon receipt of the required switch inputs the DDM will supply battery voltage and ground to the mirror fold motor control circuits to perform the requested extend or retract function. The DDM will also send a class 2 message to the PDM indicating the requested function. • The left outside power mirror--Contains both the vertical and horizontal mirror motors and is serviced as a complete mirror assembly
• The right outside power mirror--Contains both the vertical and horizontal mirror motors and is serviced as a complete mirror assembly
• The body control module--Class 2 module that requires programming when replaced, serves as the power mode master and is the main message handler
• The DDM 10A fuse--Located in the I/P fuse block and is hot at all times
• The PDM 10A fuse--Located in the I/P fuse block and is hot at all times
• The memory switch, if equipped with memory mirrors--Supplied power by the DDM and provides a voltage signal to the DDM upon a switch activation
• The horizontal and vertical position sensors, if equipped with memory mirrors--Supplied a 5-volt and low reference by the DDM/PDM and provide a variable voltage signal to the DDM/PDM that is proportional to mirror position
• The park neutral position switch, if equipped with memory mirrors--Provides transmission gear selection information to the PCM and is used for memory recall and mirror tilt in reverse functions
• The powertrain control module, if equipped with memory mirrors--Class 2 module that requires programming when replaced and provides Class 2 message indicating transmission gear selection
• The driver information center (DIC), if equipped with memory mirrors--Part of the instrument cluster which is a Class 2 module that requires programming when replaced and is used to personalize the memory recall and mirror tilt in reverse functions
• Fold motor in each of the outside mirrors, if equipped with power fold mirrors--Provides extend and retract movements of the mirror and is serviced as a complete mirror assembly
Each of the outside power mirrors contains 2 reversible motors to provide horizontal and vertical movement of the mirror glass. The vertical motor operates the up and down directions and the horizontal motor operates the left and right directions. If equipped with power folding mirrors, each outside power mirror will contain a reversible fold motor to operate the extend and retract functions. Each of the mirror motors are circuit breaker protected.

The driver door module (DDM) and passenger door module (PDM) switch the mirror fold motor control circuits to battery voltage and ground in response to mirror extend or retract command.
The power folding function of your exterior mirrors on your '04 H2 depends on a plastic gear to collapse those mirrors at the touch of a button. That plastic gear strips very easily. The service adviser at our Hummer dealership said that problem was rectified in later model years with a redesign of of the collapsing mechanism of those mirrors.
I don't mind manually folding our mirrors, and I was afraid to ask about the cost of the parts required to solve the issue. The service guy didn't volunteer the cost of the fix. Not typically covered by aftermarket extended service/warranty plans.
Has it ocurred to you that your wing mirrors are not the electrically folding type, most are not. The switch on the drivers arm rest for adjusting the mirrrors will have a separate position for folding if yours fold. The resistance to fold by hand is very stiff as you have to overcome the spring tension, even when folded by hand they do not fold as flat as you might think.
I purchased a 2006 Golf 5 GT Tdi last year it had £5000 worth of factory fitted options but did not have electrically folding door mirrors - hope this helps.
