My gas gage does not work. After I fill up with gas...withing 20-30 minutes it goes all the way down to empty. Should this be fixed or would it be too expensive to fix. The car is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Either your gauge is bad or the fuel level sender is. Most likely it's the sender in the gas tank. To replace it you would have to drain the fuel tank and pull the fuel pump/sender assembly and replace. You cannot just replace the fuel level sender with this car, the entire assembly must be changed out.

Either you have a faulty fuel level sending unit or fuel gauge. The fuel level sensor is inside the gas tank and attached to the fuel pump. Cost usually $200-$330 to fix, depending on the repair shops hourly charge!!Hopefully this helpd

2008 jaguar s series gas gage quit working

probably not all that difficult to fix it you have patience. The needle going way past full is an indication of a short before the sender unit or in the sender unit. Pull the power wire from the sender unit and see what the gauge does. IT should stay on the empty mark. IT may be just a fuel sender unit .

My gas gage go from full to empty

Chevy has a very common problem with their fuel sending units (the thing that sends the fuel level info to your computer). The only way to fix it is to replace the fuel pump/sending unit assembly which is very pricey (over $1000 if you go to the dealer). If you can just zero your trip odometer every time you fill up and don't drive more than say 250 miles before you fill again you should be able to drive without running out of gas.

My gas gage wont work. When I fill it, it will go to the fill line, but after driving it for a few miles, it goes back down to empty. What would I do to fix this problem

Most gas gauge senders are variable resistors with their resistance being varied by an arm connected to a float that sits in the fuel.
Unfortunately your problem could also be caused by a defective meter so it will be necessary for a tech to determine which has failed by making a few measurements. Checking this is not labor-intensive and shouldn't cost much for that but if the gauge itself has failed and not the sensor, in many vehicles it may require the replacement of the entire instrument panel.

My gas gauge was working fine...went to fill it up and it goes to completely empty to 1/4 tank to full then back to empty. What do I do?

you are going to need to get the gas gage sending unit replaced to fix this problem, the sending unit is located inside the fuel tank.

Fuel gage goes to zero and then to full while driving

Sounds like the sending unit is bad, which is in the gas tank.

Gas gage

It could be the fuel level sending unit is stuck or going out. It's in the gas tank.
