My brake fluid light came on in my 2004 chevrolet malibu what does that mean? Is it low? Urgent repair?

If you have no front brakes working, check master cylinder fluid level .If full replace master, if fluid low or empty check for broken line or leaking caliper..if your anti lock light is on but brakes are working ok your anti locks will not work but regular brakes will be ok. It sounds like the brake fluid reservoir is low on fluid

If the brake light it on it is generally because you are low on brake fluid.

the 2004 malibu does not have a place to put transmission fluid it has a electric power steering system and does not use fluid, if you are having a problem with the power steering light chimming and lighting up this is under a recall that chevy has obligated to fix. So if your car is doing this take it to your local chevy dealership and have them to repair it for you. Hope this helps.

find a good straight away and hammer the brakes. if brakes feel solid. check you brake fluid level at brake master cylinder engine bay, drivers side firewall. if fluid level is ok unplug the level sender at master cylinder resevoir-if this resets the light it is the switch in the master cylinder. If not unplug the switch attached to the e-brake lever.
if the brake feel spongy or fluid is low check for a leak in the hydraulic system.

your brake light is probably coming on because the fluid is to low in the resevoir. ther is a sensor in the brake fluid resevoir that is on a float. if the fluid gets to low the sensor tells thebrake light to come on . so if the fluid is just high enough to keep the light off, everytime you hit a bump the fluid sloshes around causing the float to drop and the sensor to turn the brake light on. also when your brake fluid level is low it tells you that you will either need new brakes soon or you might have a leak.

this brake warning light has dual functions,1 it tell you emer brake is on 2 it tells you you have low brake fluid leval,you said you see fluid and your resivoir is low,this means you have a leak in the brake system,and should not drive untill leak is found and problem is repaired

unhook the battery for about 15 minutes.

be sure you have the code for the radio if it's the anti-theft variety.

Have you cecked the break fluid ?

to reset the computer,which stores that info...disconnect the battery for 2 minutes and connect it back up again.
