How many ground wires go from the battery . - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

if the battery wires touched each other with out going through the battery --nothing would happen( just 2 dead wires)
if a positive wire end touched an ground wire while the terminal was connected to the battery, there would have been a flash and sparks but little else
if the two battery posts or terminals were connected with leads connected then there would be a flash and sparks and the possibility of an exploding battery

Please check the following:
- Heavy current carrying wires between the two batteries. Any joint may be loose.
- Battery to engine ground thick wire.
- Battery to chassis ground wire.
- Battery to starter motor wire.
- Solenoid switch attached to the starter motor.
- Wash the battery terminals and posts with a mixture of Luke warm water and baking soda. (Immediately wash your hands with soap water)
- Spray wet type contact cleaner on all battery posts.
If the problem persists,
- Replace all the battery, starter and ground wires with slightly thicker wires.
- Service, repair or replace the starter motor assembly. The starter motor could also work fine being purchased from junk.

Is this for a ignition coil output stage open circuit? If so you need to rerun the ground wire. Just but the wire close enough to the coil that you can still get to the wire and splice another wire to it. Just splice a wire to the brown wire and run the rest of the wire to a ground lug under the battery. You will need to remove the battery and the tray. Also when you hook the battery back up make sure the key is on. This will reset alarm and radio. Remember, you are grounding the coil so the wire should go from the coil to ground. Hope this helps

Grounds are very important in these vehicles. Usually, the ground will go from the battery through a thick cable to the engine. There will also usually be a smaller wire going from the ground on the battery to one of the fenders. There will then be several ground wires going from the engine to various points on the chassis. An example would be a ground wire going from the back of the cylinder head to the firewall. Chrysler's use a system to energize critical engine components through the ASD or Automatic Shutdown Relay. In this system, power is sent to important components like fuel injectors, ignition coils and fuel pumps at all times via the ignition switch, relays and fuses. The computer then makes or breaks the grounds based off of data from various sensors. A faulty ground to the computer, battery, frame or chassis could easily result in a no start condition. Make sure all grounds are connected as required and are free of corrosion. Running extra ground wires from the battery to the engine and chassis can always help things as well.

most likely a wire has been rubbed off onto something and is shorting out, have to check all wiring going to and from all things shorting

Give this a try------get a piece of wire and strip both ends, the black wire coming out of the plug on the head light, stick one end of the wire in there and the other end to a good ground or the negative battery terminal with the lights on, if the light gets brighter, there is a bad ground to that light. What is your question?Seems you are are the right track to repairng the fried wires. Even if you do not get them exactly right right just make sure everything is grounded. The engine and battery need grounded tot he frame/firewall.

IF you have cleaned both ends of the battery ground wire - and a confident that it is well connected.... follow the black box wires to their ground connection....
the battery ground goes to the two small wires. Those two wires provide ground to the CCRM and PCM if they are not connected correctly they can kill the CCRM or PCM modules. From the described location, I believe you are looking at the CCRM-which manages the starter relay, air conditioner and lots of other stuff....Verify good connect of those wires to ground and I believe that your problem will be gone!!

you have many grounded devices in your engine. the main ones are probably the battery ground and the alternator ground. Look at your battery, there is a Positive side (Red/Power) and there is a Negative side(Black/Ground). There is a short wire that runs from the Neg side to the wall of your engine area, it has a ring connected to a bolt. thats the ground wire. there is a similar wire on the neg side of your alternator which should be easy to find if you know what to look for.
