Check to see if all your fuel injectors are firing. To check, take a screw driver and press it agains the injector, then press your ear against the handle of the screw driver and listen for clicking. If no clicking, then either your injector is bad or you have a bad injector resistor pack. I'm not sure how to test the resistor pack (standing in front of the car, it's on the right side of the engine compartment with the heatsink attached), but you can check your injector by measuring the resistance on the contacts of the injector. You should get 1.5 - 2.5 ohms. If not in that range, that could be your problem. Next I'd think about replacing the ignitor inside the distributer and/or checking the fuel pressure to make sure it's good.

Hard to start rebuilt 2.8

To assure your distributor is in the proper position, remove your #1 cylinder spark plug, stick a screwdriver in the cylinder, manually turn the engine and bring the piston to the top. From there, set your distributor to the #1 spark plug wire (you may have to turn your oil pump drive shaft with a screwdriver). Then time your engine from there.
