I have a 2007 Altima. I can hear an unusual ping or knock, (always one ping) seems like it's coming from under the car, I can slightly feel it when my hand is on the gear sift, while the car is idled, example: like at a stop light. But not every time when idled. Maybe at two out of six stop lights. What do think it might be?
I purchased my 07 Altima on 7/18/08 approx. 2 days later i began hearing a pop/ping sound coming from the front of the vehicle, so I took it to Nissan. At first they could not reproduce the sound, so I explained that my car needed to be driven and then parked and turned of, after about 1-2 minutes you could hear the sound. 10 days later and after going back to Nissan almost everyday they say its the heat shield and its being replaced tomorrow. Hope this helps and I hope this corrects my problem. I have the EXACT same problem and have for a few months. It's usually at idle, but sometimes at low speeds, and I can feel it in the gearshift. My heatshield was replaced as part of the recall over the summer. Anyone have any ideas?I have the EXACT same problem and have for a few months. I have heard the same thing in my '07 Altima 2.5 S. I asked a mechanic @ the local dealer, and he said he doesn't know what it is and couldn't get the car to make the noise when he drove it.

Sounds possibly like big end trouble, is there any knocking att all. Is the vibration accompanied by any new/unusual noises please. Add details and resubmit the query
check exhaust line insulators. I would check the tyres carefully on a hoist as you may have picked up a bolt in the tyre . Check for tyre steel belt seperation. Unusual tyre wear pattern
so you change the knock sensor right. if so, is there any noise coming from engine . the knock sensor tell pcm to retard timing so there is no ping ping in engine advance timing.pcm apply 12 volts to knock sensor when it hear a noise vibrating sensor the voltage will drop down and tell pcm the info.
if you feel the pulsation in brake pedal when stopping. its a warped brake rotor thats causing it. for bad cv joint symtoms--- Unusual noises when making turns. As you are driving on the road and you make a turn at the corner, if you start hearing unusual sounds coming from under the car then this is one of the symptoms of a bad CV joint. These noises will sound like something is clicking beneath the car every time you turn the steering wheel. Evidence of a damaged boot. Steering wheel feels heavier. The steering wheel will start to feel tighter and heavier and you can hardly make simple turns to the left or right. In severe cases you might even feel heavy vibrations like you are driving down a rocky road.
If you hear no unusual noise coming from the engine as in clicking, ticking, or knocking, then more than likely the oil pressure sensor is defective and needs replacing. Do not drive the car until you know for sure that this is the case. If you indeed do not have any oil pressure you will destroy the engine if you continue to drive it. It will look like one of these depending on the engine size.
Check the radio fuse. As unusual as it seems, GM has started having the radio (even though not turned on) generate the chimes and turn signal sounds. If the radio fails, all the chimes fail too.
This applies to other vehicles besides the HHR. My 2003 Silverado had the door chimes fade down so I could barely hear them. The fix was to replace the radio (under warranty, fortunately...).
Could be the bearings in your alternator have gone dry and your alternator is about to quit out on you. I had a friend with an 01 altima and we could always hear him coming before we saw him because of this very problem. Changed the alternator out and noise went away. Thanks for using FixYa!
Not really a "solution" but this may move you a step closer to one...Check vacuum operated servo blend motors on the heater box. I would disconnect and plug the vacuum supply line to the dash controls (on the engine side of firewall) and drive it for a while. Obviously, if it's cold out you may not want to do this till summer because heat will not work, but it's worth a try, just to get a location on the problem isolated without taking the entire car apart!!
