fan clutches are Left hand thread as they tighten up when the engine is running. If they were right hand thread then when the fan is working they would come loose off the shaft
In short undoing then actually tightens them
It depends on what engine you have and if it has AC or not. Some you unbolt the fan from the clutch 2.2 2.4 with on AC with AC you need to unbolt fan from pulley with the clutch 4;3 you have to remove fan and clutch at the same time by loosening the large nut that is threaded to the water pump shaft its right handed thread and thats with or with out AC
You will need a fan clutch tool or a large adjustable wrench. Some fans have reverse threads (ie: right = loosen, left = tighten) so take a look at the threads on the new fan to make sure your turning the fan the correct way. Keep the serpentine belt on to help stop the water pump from turning. There is a tool to stop the water pump from turning while removing the fan clutch. But usually a large clamp or pry bad used cautiously can do the trick. It wasn't necessary to remove the radiator to replace the fan.
The fan loosens counter clockwise.Use a 1 7/16" open end wrench.Put the wrench on the nut and hit it with a hammer to loosen.Leave the belt on until the fan is loose.
