I have found that is the grid fails the light will not light, it is not just a switch, it also has a timer circuit in it, when the grid burns out it will in most cases short out, this destroys the switch module, so both will have to be replaced to correct your problem. I base this diagnosis on 30 years of new car dealer work as a technician.
