Do you mean its detached from the cable? If so, see if you can reach the attachment point for the cable and pull in direction of the cable to release. If this is helpful a thumbs up or clicking helpful would be greatly appreciated. Ther are two bolts that hold the latch in place and they should be accessable fron top center of the grille. remove both bolts and your hood will open giving you access to the ceased latch. Once this is done you can lubricate the latch which should free up the cable or diagnose what the issue is.
Most likely the cable is broken or the return spring has failed. Used one is about 10 bucks.

Can not pop hood

Go under the dash and cut back the hood release cable outer sheath if itis a broken cable we are talking about here, This will expose the inner cable core, use a pair of vise grip locking pliers pliers to pull on the inner core of the cable while someone presses down on the hood over the hood latch area to release tension, it should pop up.

Hood latch cable is broken

Slide under the front of the car with the flashlight and pliers. Shine the light up towards the location of the hood latch and locate the latch release cable, Reach in with the pliers and grab the cable as close to the latch as possible. Once you have a firm grip on the cable, pull on it in the direction it naturally moves (i.e., towards the fender or down, depending on its routing). If the latch does not release, have a helper thump on the hood above the latch with his fist a few times until the latch releases and the hood opens. good-day !

How to open a broken hood latch on 2000 ford explorer

if it is broken from inside the cab, skin the cable housing until you get to the cable and grab it with pliers or vice grips and pull the release. If it is broken from the latch under the hood you are going to need to get to the latch and release it with something, anything that you can get in there and pull the release latch.

Hood latch won't release. Can't get hood open

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

My ford explorer hood is stuck down the release does not work

law down on the ground pull yourself under the front bumper look up and locate the hood latch, use long rod or screwdriver and pry the latching lever to release hood, sometimes can be accesed thorough the grill with a flashlight. look for where the cable meets the latch....and if you cant even get to it at all (at all!) then you will have to locate the cable under the dash where it meets the firewall.... cut it to access the cable inside and pull to release. once cut obviously will need a new one.

Hood release problem

Hi JP,

Unfortunately no. There are two things to try though.

If when you pull the release it feels as though the latch is releasing (without the hood rising), try pushing the hood down (relatching), giving it a sharp rap right above the latch or prying the hood up.

If when you pull the release nothing happens:
Get a flashlight and a long set of needlenose pliers.
Look through the front grill and locate the latch. You should be able to find the release cable. Grab it with the needle nose and pull it away from the latch. You'll hear it release.

Be patient, you'll get it.
