The throttle position is bolted on to your throttle body, you should check your air flow meter also, the ecu, located behind the passenger kick panel, has a self diognastic mode with all the code definitions listed on the ecu, if i remember correctly turn the key on , dont let starter engage, pusk gas pedal to floor, release, then the ecu will bling red and green, two red blinks and one green means code 21 and so on

SOURCE: ENGINE VIBRATION AT IDLE BUT OK WHILE DRIVING.
Could be any one, or more, of the following -
Plugged injector
Bad plug wire
Fouled plug
Crossed plug wires (hard to tell sometimes on V-8s that run smooth anyway)
Vacuum leak
Leaky EGR valve
Shifted timing sensor
Scan engine for codes and proceed from there.
There is a product called RXP (available here in Texas) that will clean up an engine and gas. Its pretty awesome stuff, and this coming from a person who doesn't really believe in additives.
SOURCE: Issue with throttle control on my 2003 Maxima
I discovered that its the throttle body sensor. Its not sensing the postion of the foot pedal. The throttle body has a sensor that is linked to your gas pedal via a cable. The spring that the repair man mentioned could be the issue. The sensor then communicates to the computer the position and then computer then applies fuel, the mass air sensor then will communicate to the computer and the computer will then allow more or less air to fuel ratio. So if your stomping on the gas and there is not any response, then your throttle body sensor is most likely going out.

Sounds like a neutral safety switch in problem #1 and a sticky or faulty solinoid in problem #2
The tranny has quite a few solinoids that are electronic which sometimes burn out or fail with high mileage.
Hope this helps
