Hi: re a 2000 lesabre w 86,000 have an auto tranny shifting problem. It's not too bad, but noticing knocks/hard shifts when slowly accelerating from a stop (underload up a grade mostly). Can also be at the 45 mph point when, again increasing speed and under load. If the acceleration is medium to fast there is no occurrence of this situation. The fluid has been changed at 30,ooo and 75,000 and is always full. These GM'ers are noted for their smooth shifts. Help, please....

Sounds like the vacuum modulator on the side of the transmission or the vacuum hose going to the unit. I'm not sure if buick Is fed off of the carburetor vacuum or there's a vacuum tree on the rear of the engine block that may feed it as well. Typically if there is a vacuum leak to the modulator, your engine power will be decreased and your engine will be running rough.

SOURCE: Trans shifts very hard after 5 minutes of stop and go traffic

A reason for hard shifting could be a problem with many things with various degrees of seriousness. It could be your ATF( automatic transmission fluid) is low or broken down and old. This would cause the hardness and the reason for stop and go traffic effecting it. Another possibility is your transmission is just shot, and the timing gears inside are worn and not properly shifting at the correct RPM causing a **** during shifting.

Some possibilties, not all!

SOURCE: sometimes the transmission on my 2001 LeSabre 3.8

Have someone check for any transmission codes these don't always turn on your check engine light,If no codes and your speed sensors are reading ok it sounds like you may have a accumaltor piston seal may be leaking.

SOURCE: I have a 97 buick lesabre with 3.8, at about

Replace plugs and wires at the same time to fix. It goes to lock up mode in the transmission at that speed and this is when you most notice a slight skip or miss.

I just bought a 2001 pontiac grand am se with 99890 miles. I would like to know what rpm is the proper shift point from first to second gear? Mine shifts at like 3000 to 3500 rpm and shifts firmly is that...

Hello, well at what rpm it shifts at of course depends on how hard your pressing the accelerator at that moment,if you floor the accelerator it will shift at higher rpm (red line) but if you take off very slowly it should shift at a much lower rpm....but to answer your question 3000-3500 is a good shifting rpm( if the gauge red lines at 6000-6500 rpm) and firm shifting is a good thing, slow, sluggish and hesitant shifting is a sign of bad things to come from a tranny!! ps keep the engine oil,and transmission oil changed for long life out of your car engine and tranny. good luck and enjoy your new car......yz-maniac.

Car accelerates very slowly at stops if you push too hard on the accelerator it does nothing if you go very slowly it eventually will pick up speed

You have tranny problem. Your tranny doesn't shift higher gear when the car stop, so have the machanic check it out.

Knock sensor

Nope. The knock sensor detects knocks in the engine and retards detonation in the timing.

Car not shifting would be bad vacuum operated actuator on outside of tranny or bad syncros or other internal transmission parts
