1999 323i BMW

I just purchased a 1999 323i yesterday. When i was driving it today it suddenly had no acceleration, the EML light came on, and a light that has a triangle with an ! and a circle in the middle came on. Any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

I have the same problem. It's frustrating. What can be done?

  • Anonymous Jan 07, 2009

I've been having the same problem for 4 years!  It only happens during the cold months.  I've taken it to 4 different mechanics including a BMW dealership to no avail.  They (mechanics) have replaced the throttle twice already, a sensor in gas pedal was also replaced.  I have a 99 323i as well.  This problem is VERY annoying as I have spent a ton of money on this same problem only for it to return every winter!! HELP!

I too have a 99 323i with the same problem. The EML light, the light with the triangle!, as well as my engine light will come on. After I pull over and turn the car off, all the lights go away except my engine light. I have taken it to the dealership and they always find nothing and well as other BMW autoshops. And after a couple of days, my engine light goes off. I do not know what causes the problem and no one seems to know either.

This car tries to act like its keeping you from slipping, but it doesn't, it just turns on lights and you'll slip anyways. Fun car though.
Anyone else have an oil leak on this car that no one can find?

My 1999 323i eml and check engine light came on the other day, the car drove awful/slow. Stopped car, restarted it and all was fine. Came back next day, drove car to repair shop, next day no warning lights on. Mechanic suggest throttle actuator replacement $700 repair.

I finally fixed this problem!  Not sure if it will work for everyone but it did for me.  My new mechanic said there is an electronic 10 pin connector hooked up to the throttle body and mine had 2-3 pins that weren't making a good connection....THAT'S IT!

This is an anti-slip regulator control cutting in telling you have wheel slippage, and its in teh process of stopping the wheel from spinning, or you have the manual override on.

BMW car accelerating failures

The fault reason appears in the instrument panel or internal damage EML control module. EML system has self diagnosis function, also has the failure protection function, when the EML system failure, it can transmit the signal to the engine control module, common control solar term door position motor, maintain solar term door opening to suppress the rotation speed of the engine, so the fault that caused the engine speed can't go up. Use obd2 for automotive diagnostics , you can improve vehicle safety performance and driving more safer.

What does eml on the dashboard stands for?

"EML" is BMW's system name for electronic throttle management. The "EML" system, in it's most basic sense consists of an accelerator pedal (with an electronic position sensor), a computer module (usu. integrated with the main engine computer), and an EDK (Elektronische Drosselklappe or Electronic throttle valve). The EDK is also known as a "drive by wire" throttle. "EDK" throttles use a computer controlled stepper motor rather than a purely mechanical linkage (usu. metal cable attached directly to the accelerator pedal) to control the opening and closing of the throttle plate.

WHAT DOES EML LIGHT MEAN ON THE DASH OF MY 2003 BMW 325I?

The "EML" warning light in a BMW indicates a problem with the "drive by wire" throttle control system."

"EML" is an acronym for "Elektronische Motorleistungsregelung". Loosely translated from the original German for the BMW owner means Electrionic Engine Power Control.

"Drive by wire" throttles are very common on modern vehicles starting in the late nineties up through the present day. "Drive by wire" technology enables very precise throttle control to improve drivability and vehicle emissions, as well as many convenience features like electronic cruise control, traction control & stability control.

BMW first implemented "drive by wire" in very limited quantities on the most expensive & sophistocated BMW models starting in 1988.

The latest generation of advanced vehicle features to take advandage of "drive by wire" technology are radar guided cruise control, accident avoidance control, autonomous-driving, and autonomous-parking systems.

BMW (e39 1999) eml and asc lights and in limp mode

Check the ABS brake sensors in your wheels, if they are not functioning properly. It will trigger the computer to engage the ASC auto stability control light as the asc uses the brakes to assist in control. I will also engage the EML engine management light to slow the rev point to limp mode

BMW 1999 318i eml light come on whilst driving. Car drives well but light still on. Any thoughts to why ?

The EML light will come on if you have an emissions fault , the car may drive ok but you may find you are using more fuel , it would be better to get the problem checked just to be on the safe side , regards mark.

1999 323i BMW

you could have one of many faults. It would be dvisable to read the fault memory of your engine mangement unit. sounds like your throttle housung unit is more than likely your fault, but is impossible to know without using a diagnostic computor
